and it screwed up my recording of Lost! argh!!!!
It's one of the Tivo's that has the dvd recorders in it. One of the first ones that had that capability (that they no longer make) I'm very sad about this. I have another one, but it's only a year younger than the dead one, so I'm expecting it to go belly up fairly soon too. (was actually surprised the other one died first) My boyfriend said he'd attempt to fix it for me with a new hard drive, but that's not going to happen for awhile. I guess I'll be getting a DVR from the cable company. Altho, now might be a good time to upgrade to a new Tivo that I can hook up an external hard drive to, and then just use my iMac to record my tv shows to dvd. They just dont build anything to last any more. The Tivo at least lived longer than most computers do. (and it was always on. that model didnt have a standby mode)

you can go to ABC.com and watch the full version of lost on your computer! I have done that when a game ran over, and messed up the schedule.
Hope that helps.

Pribably better to get the DVR from your cable or satellite company. THey are outcompeting with TIVO right now and eventually TIVO may join forces with them and get out of their own hardware business.

I did get to watch some of the episode on the bad tivo last night. I had to delete a bunch of stuff off the Tivo's hard drive to get the thing to play...and it had apparently recorded for about 48 minutes before it stopped recording. Probably to reboot, and then it recorded the last 3 minutes. So, I'm a bit confused by the Egyptian hieroglyphs I saw at the end of the episode. (that seemed a bit Indiana Jones-ish) The tivo cant tell when there's a dvd in the dvd drive. So, I cant record anything to disk anymore. It was recording something this morning, so I should go see if it was doing something, or if it was going thru more death throes. it's on my dad's big screen tv, and I have no idea how to disconnect the tivo from that. My dad may end up calling the cable company to hook up a new cable box.

yes, last night episode is online at ABC.com "dead is dead" is the name of the episode. Just click on Shows, and click lost, then view recent episodes. It may ask you to download a viewer that ABC uses. I downloaded it to my computer with no issues. I went there to double check and yes, last nights episode is on there.
btw I HATE dvr vs TIVO. I love TIVO hands down, because I can search by director, actor, or weeks ahead. My cable DVR only lets me search a week in advance, and wont let me do search words for special topics like...'record anything with MS in it." Tivo was smart and knew when the ball game ran over, and my DVR wont go one minute longer to catch shows that run long, like south park. So, renting a DVR from the cable company is convienent in that they replace it if it dies, but its not as good as a tivo. fyi.

I think I'll try it again with my Windows computer. I dont think I've ever had a video problem with that before. At least there arent 5 minutes of commercials every 10 minutes on the online showings...just the 30 seconds of commercial every 15 (on most tv shows that I've watched) I could just start downloading the episodes from iTunes...but I really dont want to pay to watch if I can do it free. Maybe if they have a special episode that's Sawyer-centric.... (MmmmMMMmmm...Sawyer! I like him wearing his glasses....*sigh*)

I'm looking into getting another Tivo, and a wireless card for it so that I can use my WiFi system to transfer shows from the Tivo to my computer and iPod (been wanting to be able to do that for awhile) I cant get behind the tv that's got the dead tivo on it, and there are no less than 15 cords going from the tv up to the cable box, tivo and vcr (vcr has been useless since I got the tivo...not even sure why or what it's hooked up to) So the tv (large screen projection tv) is pretty much useless till I figure out how to disconnect the tv or I get someone to come help me fix it (hopefully my boyfriend, he works cheaper than the Geeks at Best Buy) At least if my dad wants to watch something on that tv, I can go buy an episode of what he wants to watch off of iTunes and use my iPod to play it thru the front input jacks. (been wanting to try that anyways)

I used to work a job that depended on commercials too. (I used to take orders for all the junk they sell on infomercials)
