The walker got really slow and tough for me. It often didn't get me to bathroom on time.I can toilet myself still, get to the bathroom on time with no problems. (Twink - I have a fear of driving into toilet with this powerful chair and smashing the porcelin bowll, made me a better driver!!) I sat in Living room chair a lot. Then I got my Power chair. Now I have the good one home, the manual for night, the portable travel chair for malls, which I bought in stages. Wow!!!! Go places in house now I couldn't before. Zoom around outside. Now I can't walk at all and relish the freedom it gives me. I'm not so tired at the end of the day. I used to get exhausted. When it's time, it's time. Denying it just slows you down and limits you more. My favorite blog is Marc's (Who you might know from here and there) "Wheelchair Kamikaze". He is funny, honest and wonderful.
Nobody wants to be in a chair, but easing into it is not a sign of weakness, it's using a tool. |
Hehe, I remember taking out a display of Easter stuff during a bad turn, lol!
Makes you wonder if cave men had issues with accepting the invention of the wheel...? :D |
Way to go Frank! :) That's what they're there for and you pay for them so use them, I say. I haven't used one yet but there were times when I should have. Take along a cane and poke anybody if the need arises. ;)

Hey Franko! I remember the first time my Father had to use a power chair in a store. He got to the middle of the store and just couldn't take another step, as his breathing was labored due to emphysema, heart disease, -you name it* Mother ran to the front of the store and the store employee brought an electric cart to him.
He looked so defeated and thought it would somehow damage his ''image'' or would make him look less than what he was. He was still the same person, just one that needed a little more help than he used to. After that first ride, he always used an elect cart and never gave it a 2nd thought. Heck, most stores knew him and would get the chair all ready for him when he got to the door. It was a matter of pride w/him, as it was w/you. Mom was particularly happy b/c then she had more shopping time. Use it and sit proud that you are still able to do something you enjoy and that's shopping for a gift for MEEEEE! (errr I mean Deb) *grin* |
Frank, I'm so glad you decided to start using an electric cart, and that it makes shopping easier for you.
People are rude. Especially when I'm using my walker, many hurry around me, past me, or in front of me so I don't slow them down. It reminds me of people driving on the highway, zipping back and forth between the lanes to try to be first. Eeek! |
