I just think its IMPLIED that when you LEAVE the USA, and want to get back in, you MUST submit to some basic questions, with some NON evasive answers.

Sorry, I dont feel bad for the guy. He was just being a jerk, and invoking the name of his religeon looking for a free pass to be a jerk.

I bet next time, he answers the questions, and gets out of the car when asked. I too would love to have seen the WHOLE exchange, and not just his version of it. it just sounds like there is ALOT more to the story.

SallyC, I wanted to smack him too or turn him ofF...
To me everyone's wrong - the Border patrol for taking refusal to be searched as a reason to be physicaly abusive, the guy for thinking he doesn't have to cooperate - I'm sure bad people want their rights and say it loudly, then it turns out there is a body in the trunk and under him, drugs. That man had no right to refuse to cooperate. If so, why the heck do we have police. How about my right not to be at risk?? No hitting, but defying authoritity is not nice either. I've been interviewed by the FBI for my boss and job situation, I had no wrong=-doing, and defying their right to do so wasn't the way to go.(no, they never touched me, knew a guilty young girl wouldn't giggle so hard at the kinda stupid questions. But really, I cooperated.

Erin - How do you know? Sounds like a good story.

He was in the U.S.A. as I understood it traveling from San Diego to Phoenix. They have those checkpoints all over down there in AZ. We have been stopped a time or two and no problem. They stop pretty much everyone when they set the checkpoints up.

And you might be surprised how many times we have seen the authorities loading illegals into vans and busses and taking them back where they came from.

Not really a good story.

I used to work at a McDonald's that's a few miles down the street from BoysTown (the original BoysTown, here in Omaha)

Our store employed a few BoysTowners...most of the kids were the best workers, but occasionally you got a few that were a bit resistant to the education and therapy and whatever that BoysTown offers.

One of the kids was a gangbanger, and was not very nice at all. I was threatened by him a few times (he was about 15 or 16...I was probably mid 20s) One day he shows up at work and was screwing around in the breakroom. I went in there to eat my lunch and he decided to do his threatening routine with me. Was telling me that he was going to get me fired by claiming that he was going to get into my cash register in the drive thru window that was in the back of the store. I saw that he had thing weird looking plastic thing with him. Didnt know what it was at the time.

I think I was stupid and said a few not-so-nice words to him and turned around to finish my double cheeseburger.

Next thing I knew, I was on the floor, and kind of screaming because he tazed me in the back of the arm and shoulder.

He got fired, because he didnt realize the store manager had been around the corner, changing the pop tanks, and he overheard the threat the kid gave me, and was just coming into the breakroom when the kid zapped me. I got sent home with a days pay and told that I didnt have to come to work for a day or two if I didnt feel good after being zapped.

The police came to my house to get a statement and I'm pretty sure the store manager pressed charges against the kid for having a weapon in the store. I pressed charges for assault.

I'm sure he got kicked out of BoysTown and ended up in the state penal system at some point.

See, this is how I see it. The patrol checkpoints have every right to stop and ask you to leave your car if any dog sniffs anything. I don't think anyone, including myself, has any rights when it comes to homeland security. We don't know this guy, he could have been packing bombs or anything.

I just don't get it. WHY resist if you have nothing to hide? AND if we want to put him up higher up because he's clergy that's wrong. Give me thirty minutes and I will be an ordaned minister online. Being a clergy doesn't mean you'll never do something wrong.

I want to see the tape. It should be public. Has anyone seen it?

He comes across as an arrogant **** who thinks he is special. When you are anywhere near the border the rules are different, you do what they say when they say it. If he had been coming back into the country he would have been taken to jail with possibly no medical care for a while, and he would have been denied entry even if he is a citizen. You are right, you don't mess with Border Patrol.
