Default Do You Remember You Parents First Car?

Now, I'm talking about the first car you remember, that your Parents owned.

The first car I remember, when I was bout 4/5 yrs old, was my Dad bringing home a brand new 1945 Oldsmobile 88, baby blue, with running boards.

I remember my Grandpa's car had a rumble seat..

I remember their first brand new car (since they had me) being a white 1964 Dodge Dart. Black leather bucket seats and Push-button radio controls!

Seems like they traded in a big ole Rambler for it.

Mom said her Dad had the first car in their town as a kid. A Model T? or A Ford. And yep, it had running boards!

I think it was some sort of green Ford (not sure of the model) that I think my dad bought in 61 or 62 before he joined the Air Force and moved to Alaska for a few years (he was there for the 1964 earthquake) He drove it up there (put it on a ferry from Seattle, I think) and back.

Think he drove it Alaska and back to Omaha at least twice (once on leave) and then he drove from Alaska to Omaha on the way down to San Antonio for his next duty station there. (where he met my mom)

My mom had a white Volkswagon Bug that she bought with money that her dad got from a lawsuit when she was hit by a drunk drive in '57. (she was unconscious for 5 weeks and almost died)

Those are the cars they had when they met each other.

I think my dad sold the Ford when I was 3 or 4 years old. I dimly remember the green color. I think he bought some sort of Volkswagon Hatchback after that. (my mom had a thing for Volkswagons then)

My mom's white Bug was traded in for another white Bug, and when I was 6 months old, she had a car accident in that with me in the car. (rearended the driver in front of her) and back then, the seats in the Bugs werent bolted down. My carseat (and my head) went into the windshield. I had a huge bruise for a few weeks, and my mom didnt bother to take me to the hospital until my father got home...about 12hrs after the accident. (he worked 5 jobs at the time) and he ended up having to take me to the ER for an x-ray.

I'm surprised I lived thru my infancy, much less my childhood. I wonder if the whack on the head then has anything to do with the MS now?

I'm not sure what happened to my mom's second white Bug. I think she traded that one in for a blue one...which got traded in for a red one. Which got traded in for another blue Bug (she really liked Volkswagons) and that Bug got painted two shades of green at Maaco (car painting place) and a company paid my mom to drive around with the two toned Bug with cigarette advertisements on the car for a year. (I hated having her pick me up at school in that thing! At least she wasnt allowed to park it on school grounds. She had to park two blocks away from the school (because it was advertising cigarettes)

My mom is weird. My mom agreed to do the cigarette Bug without talking to my dad, and couldnt get out of the contract when she finally told my dad about a few days after she signed the contract. He was ticked!

It was a big green Studebaker. In the age before car seats and seat belts, the back seat seemed as big as a house to me. I remember liking to roll from side to side when my dad turned corners..

The first car I remember was a blue Chevy II station wagon. My dad also had an old Audi that smelled funny.

Default Parents car

The first car I remember my parents having was a 54 Chevrolet. My aunt also had one and she used to take me 'everywhere' with her.

The most unique car my parents had was a 58 Chevy that my Dad painted mac truck green....it was a manual shift on the column and the tranny was iffy, so sometimes Mom would have to raise the hood and tinker with something under there to get it into gear.
That thing was a tank but my Mom could parallel park that sucker like a pro!

They also had the Corvair, which Mom loved especially after driving the 58!!

The first 'new' car they bought, & paid cash was a 1986 Chevy Celebrity, which they drove to Michigan to visit us . While at our house the car was side swiped by a hit and run driver and almost totaled. Turns out the driver of the car was the daughter of the Base Commander!!

Ooh, let's see, I was born in late '62 and I do remember that my dad had a reddish-purple Corvair because my sissy and I always fell asleep in the back seat; it was a mid-engine.

I was #4 and all I remember is a parade of station wagons and later, suburbans. I do recall a blue one with a silver woman for a head ornament. I think it was a Chevy but I'm not sure.

Interesting, Sal, it's not something I have really given any thought!

First car I remember was my Mom's baby blue Corvair. Not sure of the year it was but I was born in 1960 so it was probably the same age as me! My Dad had various company cars.....usually a Buick or Oldsmobile.
