I agree Dej!!!

I did call my DS's transplant coordinator and she said to follow all the guidelines and if he should develop any sx's (b/c he is immunosuppressant) to call the Dr ASAP. She also said the same thing Dej said about treating it as the flu, and to wash hands, wash hands, wash hands.

I went into the grocery store today and took my own antibacterial wipe to do a number on the cart. Then, I repeated the procedure on my hands as soon as I checked out.

All we can do is follow good hygiene and try and stay away from people who appear to be ill.

See, this is our dilemma. I know they think Nik is fine, I believe that too. BUT, I also know they still sent off that sample to be tested because of false negative results of the regular flu test. Should he tell his college he's been tested? Should we be calling the county? I don't want the news all over it to be honest because he's probably fine. Who wants that kind of attention? Our luck they would shut down the college and then find out he's fine. They just shut down three more schools in Oswego. Ugh.

What would you guys do? I am thinking since the test went to the state they will announce a suspected case right?

I think the Physician's office should be obligated to go through the proper channels if Nik should get a DX, Sandy. Since he's improving and going to lay low for a couple more days, I'd just wait and see.

Hope he's kicked that bug to the curb and will be his old self soon.

That's what I'm thinking too. Why create a panic at the college until we know? That's why I don't understand all the school closings and stuff when the tests are not even back on these kids. They are mostly suspected which doesn't mean positive. But to listen to the news you'd think the zombies were coming! LOL

I take it serious and use universal precautions, always have since my hospital working years. I still think back when washing my hands how we were taught the proper way to wash our hands. In between the fingers, ten times, both hands, then flip and repeat. Rinse, grab towel, dry and turn off faucet with towel. haha

Thumbs up H1N1 Flu

I heard this evening on the news that the H1N1 Flu possibly is lacking amino acid the other deadly flues have. So it may be milder unless it mutates.

I also heard good news for me anyway. If a person had the Asian Flu in 1957 - I did - then I possibly am immune to this flu. Or perhaps I would have it milder if I caught it. But, in saying that, it doesn't mean that I am not going to follow precautions as I always do. Like avoiding sick people, crowds, washing my hands with soap and water, keeping my hands away from my mouth, nose and eyes. I will always do that even to try and avoid milder flues or colds. It's not a guarantee but at least it helps.

Saying a quick prayer he's OK DM. Try to get Tamiflu before 48 hours if he's not better and it will help him no matter what. I heard you have to be sick now to get it but I got an extra last night at Walgreen's for Jim just in case. Nik's running 100 degrees right now but feels fine. I'm not surprised since temps tend to spike at night. The nurse swore to us that Tamiflu was why he's feeling better because it works so quickly. I had no idea that stuff was that potent!

I am hearing the same thing. You say Nik is fine and the doctors just want to verify his flu strain. I would treat it like I always did when my kids were little. He cannot go to school until he has not had a fever for 24 hours.

I am glad Nik is feeling well.
