Erin, I hope you get some relief soon. Antibiotics are great for this. I've had lots of painful dental stuff happen since my first round of Solu-Medrol (there's a connection there somewhere, according to neuro & dentist). Narcotic pain meds didn't touch the abcessed tooth pain. I had terrible headaches and jaw pains.
I recently had my first root canal, and it honestly wasn't that bad. It was much easier than I thought! I don't know if this is dental protocol, but my dentist numbed the area with some clove-scented stuff before injecting the novacaine. The pain was gone pretty quickly when the root canal was done. It was definitely worth it, compared to all the pain I was in beforehand. Nothing is worse than dental pain to me. I hope you are better soon!

Just anecdotal evidence.
Beary, as far as I know, there has been no research or studies on this. I never had tooth problems, not even a cavity, before Solu-Medrol. A few months after, I had a million problems, including gum disease. I talked to my dentist about it, and he said that while he's never seen proof, he sees many MS patients whose dental health gets really bad after IVSM. He also said that other dentists he knows have also connected this. He's a reputable guy who has been around for awhile, so I believe him. He's even asked me to get check-ups both before and after I do IVSM. I've only done it once though, when I was first dx. It's definitely worth looking into. But don't steroids deplete your bones? Maybe it does the same to teeth.

I'm still not feeling great, the antibiotics and I do not get along very well. (tummy hurts a bit, but that's better than my tooth trying to crawl out thru my ear)
I'm just soooooo tired! Before the pain started to kick in last week, I had been so tired and weak feeling, couldnt figure out what the deal was...and I felt like I was having some sort of potty issue. Now that I'm on the antibiotics, the feeling of having a potty issue feels like it's going away (hmmm! more than just a tooth infection?? I dont know) I'm just tired of the tiredness. I cant wait to get the tooth dealt with. I figure a root canal cant be much worse than a regular filling, and it's got to be a ton better than feeling like crap and being in pain. My dentist tells me that my mom falls asleep whenever they do any work on her, even during her root canals. I dont think I could ever get that relaxed, even with chemical help. Hopefully my mom is telling the truth about the dentist being really good at gentle rooth canals.
