I can't drive anymore, and don't get to go shopping for so much as a card for anyone. But I do have a printer and scanner and can order ink on the internet. So, since I became somewhat less able, I make pictures and cards and enjoy going through old pictures for them. My daughter enjoyed getting a specially made gift from the heart.
I recycle old picture frames, maybe spray paint it a different color. I really hate the commercialized part of some of the holidays, but do like to celebrate them in my own way. It's funny... before when I worked and had plenty of money, I thought I had to buy gifts for everything that came up. So now that I am retired and poor I am really enjoying approaching life in this new, simpler way!

I'd much rather get something someone made especially for me.....or a card with a note in it. Things from the heart are just so much more special. I'm sure you helped to make your daughter's first Mother's Day special for her!

I have always taught my kids that something that is made from your hard work, or with love is a million times better than any store bought wonder. Decades from now, my daughter will be laying her hand made quilt on her bed, or snuggling her own kids in it. Decades from now, I will be adoring my picture frame made from folded paper that my son made. The picture of him catching a fish in it was great too! I still treasure so many of the wonderful things that were made just for me, and not mass produced for everyone else too.
Being frugal has its perks.

My DD received a lovely scrapbook type thingy from her DD (8), in her own words, with special drawings and stuff. Tears were streaming down DD's face, as she was reading it aloud, to us..

I think that's neat F2Y. My Sis and I do rubber stamping and make our own greeting cards. It's kind of like therapy for me.
