I knew they use pregnant horse urine to make hormones, but what I didn't know is that they have PMU horses. They are like the puppy mills.

I e-mailed a friend of mine who owns 20 horses and sent her the link. She e-mailed back that a friend and neighbor of hers actually rescues PMU horses and finds them good homes.

This is all so very sad!

Thank you for raising awareness. A relative of mine adopted a Premarin foal. He is an adult now and loved very much but from what I understand could have been slaughtered if no one took him.

It is very cruel and as someone said similar to puppy mills. Why we as a society allow this type of thing to go on is beyond me. It makes me ashamed to be a member of the human race.

Thank you for saying this.

I did not start this thread to make anyone feel guilty - how could anyone know how this stuff was made? They just rx a med and we think it''s just another med. If you need it, you try it....

I am going through menopause (or mentalpause, you decide) with no meds, and I'm fine like this. But know there are those who have a hard time and need something.

Just thought this is not how meds need to be made - or if they do, we need to think about how do we help the animals who help us?

I don't know what kind of house I'll end up with, but i'm thinking if I do buy a place with a few acres, I may see about foal rescue.

Dh is pushing for a small farm, and he should know by now if there is room for a pony, there is gonna be one - or more...

If you ever do have a farm most rescues will even provide the food and vet care while you foster. DH and I are hoping to get a small farm some day and do this also...or a huge farm with our own rescue if I ever hit the lottery.

Wow, with a pony, who needs plants?

We have a show horse farm nearby that I drive by on the way to work. They have tiny colts now. I need to leave a little early so I can stop and take pics and movies of the adorable little things with their mamas.

We have a horse farm here that allows those with disabilities come and ride the horses. Wiz, I should call them and we can all go riding!
