Default I think somebody's fibbing me

Not that it really matters; it's the principle of the thing. She does like to embroider her stories, and sometimes make them up out of whole cloth. But once in a while, they're true.

Is it really possible to, essentially, buy a house on line? Could somebody actually buy a house out of state, do all of the transactions (appraisal, inspection, approval, etc.) on line, and just make one quick trip for the closing?

This person went away for one week-end, like Friday through Monday, and now all of a sudden she has pictures of "her" house. That seems awfully quick to me, unless she did a lot of stuff on the phone or internet for the last few weeks. Of course, I'm just skeptical based on her history. What do you think?

I remortgaged on line in California although I live in MD. Mortgage company arranged Inspection (very quick) so they could be sure house worth what Mortgage was. And Zillow, isn't that like buying a house online? I could never buy a house "virtual-like". but I guess some can. Whrn I rented a vacation house, found photographer made rooms look bigger and better than they really were. But I bought a 3 hour drive away so we made a day of it. More trips might have done us in, On-line listings provided us with house pictures. I guess if you're willing to gamble on such an important thing, you can do anything on line. I think.

Did she have a house to sell? That's the hard part. Few let you hold 2 mortgages at once,(few are eligible for 2!!!) unless you have $$$s, you need a bridge loan.

Yep, it is possible. My neighbors never left their home, and purchased a house in South Carolina. They had all the inspections done, and had a power of Atty given to a local lawyer down there who faxed them the papers, and they were notortized and faxed back. Its rare to do, and its complicated, and expensive! there are many added fees when folks have to stand in for you, but it can be done. btw, they didnt have a house to sell, they just bought a winter place to go roost.

I don't think she's got a whole pile of money, but who knows? It doesn't really matter. I should just let her stories go in one ear and out the other, but I can't help wondering sometimes, "Can that really happen?"

I would never confront her about her fairy tales (I don't think), but for some reason I like knowing whether or not the wool's being pulled over my eyes, even if she never realizes that I know it. Know what I mean?

Anything is possible. I'm doing a similar thing now. Dh is in another state working and i'm shopping online.

I'm working now with a realtor, but I doubt seriously that I could pick THAT fast. It would not be that hard to make up my mind once all the ducks were in a row though - but dh is another matter. No way I'm buying without flying down to look in person, but I guess some people could do that.

The pix online have come a long way - virtual tours are pretty nifty.

I can see why you are skeptical. It's a big deal buying a house, not like buying a shirt.

Seems like it would not take too long to do it though if she pre-approved for the loan, picked her house and set up the inspection right away. They are dying to sell, you know. It might be harder if she's selling - you can't count on how fast that's going to happen.

I'm still in the house, cleaning it out, packing, etc. Not on market yet. Hope to be there next month? We'll see... But I can't just stay down there, looking at houses. Work to do here. and I can't just sit here stuffing boxes, gotta have a house, so online house hunting is the only way.

I don't have money coming out my ears either, but we don't have to sell this house to buy another. But it would limit the new house's price range some.

I'd just let her stories roll off. If it's just a story, you'll know when she never closes on it. Me, I'd probably confront her then. *I'd like you better if you were'nt so full of bull* Something like that.
