Default update my father

please keep him in your prayers,

he was brought into ER, Monday night, almost been a week. He had fainted at home, woke up due to dog helping lick him till awaken... due to dehydration I think.

Medical is why I hate living small town area....

ok in for a week now...

we have been told it is due to chemo...like side effects...they stopped his pills... then told possible blockage in colon...as he was vomitting and diareha...sp??

anyhow...he is now on cathetar, feeding tube to his port, IVs... and oxygen ...

ugggggg

they keep going back and forth..or ordering things then no one knowing of the dr saying it..

like one dr had in paperwork NG tube...well forgot to do order for nurse..so until that day I asked about something and she noticed his notes on NG did we know he wanted one..uggg

or he ordered xray for second day... and it was not in order...
today my sister asked new dr about CAT scan for abdomen to check the blockage...and at first said it would not show enough... then finally they ordered one for tomorrow...
they also said they are ordering for ventilation therapy...or whatever called...as he does not make ball move on that sucking air in check thing for lungs....
so I asked nurse hour later what time they are starting the therapy ...she had no clue... this dr forgot to put in order... so I ask nurse to check on it she says she will have to leave note for tomorrows dr.. Iasked about calling... she said that dr is not on call...but other one would not know case enough to order...ugggg

so then go to say by at nurse station...and she said oh I forgot I was just on phone with the dr and forgot to ask about the ventaliation...ugggggggg

anyhow, I emailed my sister...in morning we are going to say hey what is the plan here....week of laying around and what...and also about transferring him maybe to GREEN Bay or somewher.e..

so sorry I rambled my frustrations...there is more...like one nurse saying we can get him up and sitting today...then it was not done...so when in there I tell this nurse tonight...that I want to sit him up for a while.... she said he is too weak...and something about well he is sleeping...I told her I just asked if he wants to and that the other nurse said he can even sit up in chair not just on bed....ugggggggggggggggg

ok gotta get to bed, I had been sleeping last two nights holding dads hand in there...so not much sleep then trying to work... i should know better..but it is my dad, and you never know how much time he has.....but today then at work, I had episode of vertigo..balance bad...and vision bad...so had to go home from work and sleep 6 hours....

hugsssss, and thanks for prayers, sarah

Good thing your dear Dad has you there to advocate for him. Please remember to take care of yourself, sweetie.

So sorry to hear about your Dad's struggles, Sarah. I'm glad you're there for him.......you're both in my thoughts and prayers. I hope the nurses and doctors can finally figure out what to do for him - I know how frustrating the incompetence of supposed professionals can be.

Thanks guys,
I wrote that last night, I was pretty upset with how things are being done. Sisters of mine are too. I talked to my younger sis who is in town here too. She and I might both be there today when dr is there...to say hey what is the plan... and I talked to her about shipping him out to Green Bay, might be a plan... hard to think of him further away, and not being able to be there holding his hand, but at same time. If the drs here keep saying one thing and not ordering it right away, and we keep having to push for each and every test or idea... getting riduculous...

hugss all, sarah

I thank you all for your prayers, and love you all... this place is so much comfort hugsssss

I am so sorry for your situation.

There is a HEAD nurse in EVERY hosptial. If you feel that you are getting shuffled around, and lost in the shuffle, PLEASE find the HEAD nurse, if not of that floor, then of the hospital. Ask for a patient advocate. Explain to them that the whole family feels lost in the shuffle, and you want someone to SLOW DOWN and explain this whole thing to the family today, AND you want to be kept informed throughout the process. It sounds like the right hand doesnt know what the left hand is doing, and you are afraid of mistakes being made if someone doesnt provide a better level of care. Explain to her that you are NOT going away, and WILL hold HER accountable (without being mean or screaming in her face.)

it is so scary when a loved one is so sick, and it feels like a three ring circus admitted them to a scary place. I hope a patient advocate (which EVERY hospital is supposed to have) helps you find some answers.

Big hugs!
