Default 1st day of yard sale today

I hate getting ready for yard sales but love all the interaction and of course making money on things you don't need anymore. I had this one with my DD that lives here in town. They had scads and scads of DVDs, PS2 games, board games and CDs. She also had a fair amount of clothes. So they made about $250. I made about $140 and sold some furniture and pretty much all of my Christmas village. So most of my big ticket items are gone. I have lots of quiltiong stuff plus quilting books and they haven't even been looked at. I also have 4 Christmas trees. Don't ask me why I have that many because I'm not sure I have an answer. I think I am going to light them all tomorrow to see if they will sell better. I do know that I have a sun burn. I am exhausted but about $150 richer. Of course all my profit goes toward taking the entire family to Florida next fall! My DDs profit goes toward her bills! So mine is more fun.

It is so frustrating when you advertise 8 AM. So the kids get at my house at 6 to start setting it up and we haven't even got the tables out fo the garage and the cars are rolling in! I would imagine we sold about $50 worth by opening time at 8. I also sell sot drinks and bottled water for 50 cents.

So I'm a little burnt, my house is more decluttered and yes, it will be back the same in about 4 years.

Congrats, you have the yard sale bug. There are many early birds that sit in their cars and wait for the first sign of opening, when they think you have a good sale going. Its so much fun.

If you dont sell those trees, you can donate them to a local community center, or church for decorations, and then write them off your taxes. Make sure you get a receipt for them.

MAke a sign saying QUILTING BOOKS! and an arrow. It will stop the ladies who would have driven on by.

I hope you have tons of fun.

That's good advice. Some one told me that too, if you have something unsusual, make a sign and point it out. I got mellon colored (because they're pretty lol) poster boards for signs to write *Guy Stuff!* and things like that.

I hear you on hating this, but I agree that they must have thought you had some good stuff to have early bird-ed you like that. And you seem to be making really good money so far. Keep up the good work!

Well it's all over and I made a grand total of $3.50 today!!!!!!! I'm glad my DD made more. They pulled in a pretty penny for the two days. Due to all the stimulus money available to the states our city is doing a lot of construction and most of it happens to be in our area so there are several main streets blocked off. We tried to make sure to place our signgs right next to the detour signs with big directional arrows but many people said they had a real hard time finding us. We did make over $400 combined. So my Disney World fund is growing nicely!!!!! I saved the stuff that my house could still use but most of it ent straight to Goodwill. It was so hot today that I let my DD make most decsions. We had premade some decisions for just that reason.

So it's time to start accumulating more junk!!!!!!!! Summer of 2014 here I come for another yard sale!

Well, I'm sorry the construction was a problem. But you got some junk out of your way and made a few bucks. Plus you have a trip to look forward to! Cool beans!

I like to drop all my change in a jug when I'm saving for something special. Back in the poor days, I bought my kids's (expensive!) little white baby shoes that way. It helped fund Christmas too.

My yard sale is in two weeks. Haven't had but one, 18 yrs ago so this'll be interesting.
