Default Do you shimmy?

I have been watching the Fit TV channel, and they have a program called Shimmy. Its about learning to belly dance.

I have been having such fun with these programs. I have even started to tape them on the DVR. Of course the hubby thinks its fantastic. I cant believe how many muscles I have forgotten that I own. I love that these women are not skinny twigs, and are flaunting the fact that they have a bit of tummy fat upon them, and celebrate it! woo!

Has anyone else seen this show?

I don't need to shimmy to make my belly dance.

I shimmy, unvoluntarily, these days..

I can see where it would be very sexy for your DH..

When I could (in a chair now) "pole-danced "every day to a variety of songs. Lot of leg lunges there. And did sit-ups, For an aging person, I looked good!! Now, not so. But upper body strength I had has helped greatly since DX. Looked good enough my then new PCP, when she asked and I told her I pole-danced for exercise, asked "Oh, are you a go-go dancer?"

perhaps I made it sound like I have become talented at this...trust me, I am not. I am clunky, clutzy and generally would be dimissed from any class on the market, but its been a great deal of fun to shimmy, and wiggle.

I am not sure if the DH is appreciative that I am simply moving, or the suggestive nature of the dancers on TV. maybe I should see where he is looking when cheerleading.

I look like a cow on roller skates, but its fun. cant help it.

Shimmy... no... 'nough said! BUT I do the hoola hoop thing on the Wii fitness board! Now that is fun. Hubby and sons characters are the ones that throw the hoops at my character and it is a workout trying to keep those things going.

I did beledi dancing for years and the "rolls" but since a hysterectomy 10 years ago I have no control of my lower abdominal muscles so can't do that.

Because of the ugly midline incision from here to yonder I would never belly dance now.

When I hear the music I still try and move what I can and YES; I can shimmy both the upper and lower either separately or together as a unit!

I can still so the rest of the movements but the "rolls" were really the best part and not everyone can do those.

Years ago there was a beledi (belly) dancer on Johnny Carson who could flip a quarter up and down her tummy using muscle contractions which was really neat. I forgot what Johnny said but I'm sure it was priceless!!

I used to. I was a Middle Eastern Dancer for 12 years. That was a fun time. Now if I were to shimmy or spin I know I would hit the ground and let's not even think what would happen if I tried the old balance the sword on the head routine. Um...yeah...

Yep...I did some while on the cruise, cause a girl wanted to learn a few basic steps, along with learning to shag...I have more to shimmy now!!!lol
I have done this for years, but with my back having so much pain, I have to be careful...

Make sure you are in the right position or you can injure your lower back...be careful if you do camel rolls...it can put pressure on your lower back...it is a lot of fun...

You need the extra tummy to make the shimmy...I need to see when it comes on...it is great exercise...keep going...we want videos. lol

Yeah I was gonna say, if I tried that, my hip bone would go flying across the room. There'd be pieces all over the carpet, you'd never get me back together again.
