Does anyone else have a teenager that would sleep all day if you didn't wake them up???? My daughter is 18 and about to head off to college and would honestly sleep untill lunch everyday if we didn't wake her up! I've always heard teenagers need sleep but geez.....

I’ve heard that this teenage quasi hibernation is pretty normal. In fact, some school districts are considering starting high school classes at noon to accommodate adolescent sleep patterns. Personally I wonder if kids aren’t just going nocturnal: up all night twittering and such and catching up during the day.
Anyway, I hope your daughter can avoid morning classes in college. |

I have 2 seventeen year olds. They get up, we eat lunch, then I go down for my nap. They keep late hours, Me and DH in bed by 10 and up 5-6 am. I know I drove my mom crazy too.

both kids, boy and girl slept and slept and slept. it was hilarious. 12 hours a day was not uncommon next to my daughters menstral cycle. My son would be up till the wee hours, and then want to sleep till 4 in the afternoon.
As they both hit their 22 year range, they both leveled off to more normal patterns.

My youngest DD and I always have this 'fond' memory. She was like many of your other typical teens. Could sleep for hours on end. One day I not only wanted her up but needed her up so she could help me with something I couldn't do. So I turn the light on in her room, crawl in bed. OK, this doesn't do anything but for her to pull the covers up higher. I have always been one who likes to read very dramatically. So I go get the whole two page ads for the personals. Some girl for girl, guy for guy, big ladies wanting studs. You get it. So I sit there on her bed very dramatically reading all of those and trying to make some matches of my own. Soon I could feel she was trying her hardest not to laugh. We got up, had a good cup of coffee, well she did, and we were on our way.
You just have to be creative. I am also a firm believer that you don't have to have money to make memories. |

Mine are now 25 (ds) and *going on 20* (dd). They give new meaning to the words sleeping in. Noon? Like they'd see noon unless they had to. I think any teen who's up before 9 am needs to be tested. something ain't right. Both my kids work second shift. ![]()

DD19 is the same way. She is up late and sleeps until around noon. She scheduled her classes later in the morning and afternoon.
DD17 (18 next week) until recently was the opposite. She went to bed between 9 and 10 and up no later than 8. Lately she has been staying up until around 11 and up by 10. She scheduled her classes for earlier in the day (9:00 a.m.). I have always been a sleeper and a morning person. In my teens, I was in bed by 9 and always up early. (Hey, with 10 kids you had to get up early to get in the bathroom and get some hot water before everyone else. LOL). With the exception of weekends, I was never able to stay up late like others. Don't worry. Your DD is perfectly normal. |

Okay I'm a little concerned about her reasoning! I just looked at her classes for the fall semester and she has 8:15am classes M-W-F... bless her heart and the college is on EST so that is 7:15 to her!!!
![]() She knows the drill though... good grades or you're coming back home to go to college! Silly girl I don't know what she was thinking other than she could leave campus early on Friday and make it home right after lunch. |
