Default Osha and cdc contacts

I have been calling both OSHA and CDC and then they route me to more divisions, which I can't remember now...

but I keep asking, "WHAT ARE THE STATISTICS ON NEURO TOS - HOW MANY NEW CASES ARE THERE EACH YEAR, HOW MANY PATIENTS ARE THERE, WHO IS KEEPING TRACK OF THIS INJURY / ILLNESS?"

And I am SHOCKED that I keep getting NO INFORMATION. I am not a conspiracy type person, but is / are there no information sources because the computer runs our country? Is there a fear that if the computer, hardware, software and/or the keyboard is found to cause injury that there will be tons of lawsuits for damages or inherently dangerous product, or failure to cure defects in known product that causes harm with use, etc.???

As an attorney, I keep scratching my head and wondering, where's the class action lawsuit??? Where are the statistics on TOS, like we have on MS or Parkinson's??? WHY WHY WHY is there a vacuum of numbers when it comes to our illness, or RSIs???

Please discuss this.

I 'm not sure if this is what Tam is looking for but fits in with the topic of RSI and why it is not covered/studied more.
This is from Australia but the reasons fit world wide I'm sure.

[Why was the Australian RSI "epidemic" seen to disappear in the late 1980s?

I did find this on the CA DOSH site- might be something you already saw.
But might point to another search area to look for info data/stats..

Probably won't find many stats on actual TOS -but maybe under CTD {cumulative trauma disease}, MSD {musculoskeletal disorder} or RSI {repetitive strain injury}.

[Injury & Illness Records

Injury and illness record keeping requirements under Cal/OSHA require a minimum amount of paperwork.

These records give you one measure for evaluating the success of your safety and health activities: success would generally mean a reduction or elimination of employee injuries or illnesses during a calendar year.

Five important steps are required by the Cal/ OSHA recordkeeping system:

1. Each employer (unless exempt by size or industry) must record each fatality, injury, or illness that is work-related, is a new case, or meets one or more of the general recording criteria specified in Title 8, Section 14300.
2. Record each injury or illness on the Cal/ OSHA Log of Occupational Work Related Injuries and Illnesses (Form 300) according to its instructions.
3. Prepare an Injury and Illness Incident Report (Form 301), or equivalent.
4. Annually review and certify the Cal/OSHA Form 300 and post the Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses (Form 300A) no later than February 1 and keep it posted where employees can see it until April 30.
5. Maintain the last five years of these records in your files.

NOTE: Additional information on recordkeeping can be found on the Internet at: www.californiaosha.info or www.dir.ca.gov/DOSH

During the year, regularly review these records to see where your injuries and illnesses are occurring. Look for any patterns or repeat situations. These records can help you identify hazardous areas in your work-place and pinpoint where immediate corrective action is needed.

Since the basic Cal/OSHA records are for reportable injuries and illnesses only, you might expand your system to include all incidents relating to workplace safety and health, even those where no injury or illness resulted. Such information can assist you in pinpointing unsafe acts, conditions or procedures.]

Here's the Federal site -

[Injuries, Illnesses, and Fatalities
(IIF) program provides annual information on the rate and number of work related injuries, illnesses, and fatal injuries, and how these statistics vary by incident, industry, geography, occupation, and other characteristics. ]

http://www.bls.gov/iif/

[Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) include cases where the nature of the injury or illness is sprains, strains, tears; back pain, hurt back; soreness, pain, hurt, except the back; carpal tunnel syndrome; hernia; or musculoskeletal system and connective tissue diseases and disorders, when the event or exposure leading to the injury or illness is bodily reaction/bending, climbing, crawling, reaching, twisting; overexertion; or repetition. Cases of Raynaud’s phenomenon, tarsal tunnel syndrome, and herniated spinal discs are not included. Although they may be considered MSDs, the survey classifies these injuries and illnesses in categories that also include non-MSD cases. ]
http://www.bls.gov/iif/oshdef.htm

Musculoskeletal disorders. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), often referred to as ergonomic injuries, accounted for 29 percent of all workplace injuries
and illnesses requiring time away from work in 2008, the same percentage as in 2007.]

Ahh . here's maybe an easier page to find info - clickable with tutorials on locating stats
http://www.bls.gov/iif/data.htm

[Customized Injuries & Illnesses Tools
Occupational Injuries and Illnesses and Fatal Injuries Profiles
Allows users to search nonfatal and fatal data for the nation and for States from the most current Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses and the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries programs. Users can search by industry, demographic characteristics, and case characteristics. Historical data for years prior to the current year are also available. ]

Oh Jo!

thank you thank you thank you!!!

This is like Christmas! But this is a LOT to look through and try to get this stuff, but I know that there is good stuff in here.

IF anyone wants to help search through this and post, feel free. As much as I can, and when I can, I will work on this project as we all are disabled...

But whhooeee, thank you for this! (I cannot tell you how many times I've called and been routed around their systems just trying to find something like the above charts. But I'll have to have fiance print them out and sift through until I find some good stuff to report back to all.)
