Okay, a few weeks ago I noticed a twitching sensation in my right hand. Then a few days ago I noticed my whole index finger has started twitching uncontrolably. Can this be a sign of nerve damage??

It could be.

Think of your nerve as an electrical current. Something is causing the current to turn on / off, on / off, to make your finger jerk.

I have had this symptom many times, in different fingers, mostly on the right hand. Also the right side of my face will do it.

Look at the dermatomes chart below and see if you can identify the nerve from the chart.

It could also be irritated nerves.

The auto accident I was in (2 times ago ) I took the steering wheel in my chest and was bruised in-between the thumb and index fingers from bracing myself against the steeering wheel. For about a week, both my index fingers were J U M P I N G uncontrollably. It subsided and the index fingers have been relatively quiet ever since.

I hope what you have is irritation and not dammage regann!

I've had my thumbs twitch -- they hurt very bad and even the pads. My accident was in 10-2000. Had a looooooooong journey for recovery.

I had it examined by reputable docs and they would examine, x-ray, manipulate and then say they couldn't help me other than pain pills.

Well, 7 years later, after an IV in the LEFT hand, caused a bad flare in both arms and hands and thumbs, my RIGHT thumb became a trigger thumb. Now at this point, with the triggering, they injected it twice to release the triggering (worsening of my post accident injury to thumbs that didn't manifest into something they could do something for until IV in opposite hand. the LEFT thumb did not trigger. just a bad flare.)

Two is the limit, so I treat my thumbs with tender loving care, parafin wax, and try not to get it into a triggering state. Two is the limit, they say, for thumbs. then surgery for a release. I also treat them if they flare up, with infrared and LED light pad and Flector patches or Lidocain patches, or a Celebrex or two. It helps.
