Question should I consult a 2nd surgeon?

Hi All,
My family keeps bringing this up...so I thought Id ask you as well...
Should I consult a 2nd surgeon before I let Dr Avery operate? Its not that I don't have full confidence in him....but my family is just concerned as it is a pretty serious surgery, they asked me to please post this. This is a WC case...would they pay for a 2nd opinion?
thank you

It wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion, but wc would probably need to pre approve it. If it keeps family happy that's a good thing too.

I know of a few that were wc and went for second opinions on surgery.
I don't recall the details of how they went about it though.
A good wc atty should be able to advise you the best way to go about it.

Your right.... keep the family happy...

My son who is 15, said "mom we can go down to SF tomorrow, I dont think you should wait any longer" (the purple arm freaks him out)

Yeah I will call the Att.... I know she will ask me if I have a name of a Dr I would like to go see.... Any suggestions? In Northern CA. (my current Dr is 5hrs away....not a huge deal to travel)

Thanks

In the drs & PTs sticky thread [ http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread135.html ] are posts by johannakat { CA} & by colleen - describing the drs they saw and how they chose the one to do surgery.

our Drs listings in the thread are possibly outdated as they were mostly posted back in 06/07 - so a google search or similar - of any names you are interested in should give updated info.

or those rate my MD sites, too.

I went to UCSF for a second opinion on whether I had TOS. I saw Dr. Messina, who is now at Mass. General, I think. Darren Sneider is still there but I'm not sure he does surgery. I'm not aware of another doctor in the Bay Area who does surgery.

Good luck.
