She just has a lot of things going on - I'm sure when she has free time she'll be back visiting here.

Default Sorry to worry you all

It is so wonderful to have friends that care and miss me for sure. Thanks for checking in on me G~ snf Jo, Helen, Mark and others.
I was on a spinning plate with the food flying off would put a good perspective on it. Then on top took on a new project. Adding more food to the plate.
I am speaking on behalf of families in medical/legal crisis with mental health issues and their often disappointing support from law enforcement.

I spoke and met with several key persons in the county on this issue, and in mid October will meet in Harrisburg at a conference with those fighting for forensic training for police officers on this issue and changes in the court system.

Many bi-polar and schezophernic (sorry for spelling) loved ones had real problems in the legal system.

My Uncle died two weeks ago and it was so sad, Mom's younger brother. My Aunt's his wife and one close to me in age came up and took me out for the morning...I loved seeing them.
It really helped me catch my breath.

De's w/c earning part is settled, she was able to pay me back for medications and legal fees so we are going to Orlando next month for 6 days...4 of us for $1,300!!! Staying at a value hotel onsite Disney. We will spend one day at Disney, one at Universal, one at Sea world, and one at the OCean.....

If the skies are free from Hurricains, lol.
I am cherrier, my anxiety still is troubling and my physical energy level is nil!
To all I owe email to I will catch up.
Hugs and love,
G-Mom2 I will call you later,
Love Di

Default I'm so sorry!!!

Oh DiMarie!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your Uncle! That is so difficult! So many emotions to deal with and all these other very draining, tough issues!!

I''m so glad to hear you and your loved ones are going to get to do something fun and relaxing!! You guys deserve it!!

I am sooo thrilled that you are invoved in Law Inforcement and have a heart for those who are mentally ill and dealing with the legal system!! There is a desperate need for sensitivity training in that regard!! Would you mind coming to Northern CA. and talk to our Superior Court?? J.K.

You may or may not remember that my sister is bipolar and has had some run ins with the law that were horrible. They were very insensitive and mean spirited (to put it nicely) to her and her problems, and instead of helping the situation, their attitudes made things extremely difficult. I am grateful that you are making this effort on those with mental issues behalf.

Let us know how much fun you have on your trip, and say Hi when you have a moment to catch your breath!! I miss seeing you on the forum!!

(( HUGS!! ))

G~

Hi Di and all-
We have had some local news stories of similar.
just last week a 18 yr old boy at his family home was threatening to harm himself or family members plus he was drunk/drugs??.

police came { his own mother called them for help}
and he didn't follow directions, so they first shot with bean bags and he went towards the house where family members were -so cops opened fire {4 hits- DOA}

he only had a short bladed knife-family says he dropped it when bean bagged- but he didn't get on the ground like directed.
to be shot 4x right in front of family is crazy

I would have ran out to stop any shooting if I was the mom-

police do need to get better trained to handle these things

Default So sad

Grom, I am so sorry about your sisters problems and remembered, it was a seed planted, blooming when my family had experianced the same thing.

Hearing this is so much the reason I am pursuing on one more endevour. Loved ones with deminished capacity being caught in a legal system that requires one to have mens rea or legal capacity to commit a crime and they are dragged into it, often not even knowing why they are in cuffs or jail...then the monatary burden.

Jo, In doing research for my presentations a similar incident happened more then a decade ago and was the incentive in Nashville, Tn. to start a sensitivty and educational task force, a young man was off and the he was shot.....I am so frightened to hear that in more then a decade nothing has changed in training police.
As said, coming in guns ho, is not going to help and well escalate seomeone in their own world, confused and anxious. That young man must have felt like he was in a battle, like a war, and just protecting himself from his demons and why couldn't police have other options and training to help him then to kill him. I know that I was on calls like that. The same individule took on a rookie officer, as he protected the wife and child from the caller; threatening suicide in this cas, it was a suicide by cop ruling....but with prior knolwdge and help, could it have been adverted with more training and a task force.

I thank you for the articles, I feel in life sometimes we are given the friends we have and connections made for a reason, and the news of these cases strongly adds to my commitment.

A few months ago I experianced the police arriving on a scene and escalating a situtation lights and all, hands on their guns, then a huge bang...I thought the person was shot! It was a window breaking, but a person calling in a mental health crisis for assistance could have been dead!

The loss of my Uncle was tough, he had skin cancer battle two years ago, and then in March diagx with cancer everywhere. As my late Mom's younger brother, he was only a few years older then me and the sisters only two and three years older then me, so they were like siblings, more so then my own ever were.

On top of that it seems every day there are the lifes little things (little?), conflicts and problems,
I didn't fall asleep until late so guess I will take a nap,
Hugs to you all,
Chat later
Di
