Default TOS & MS anyone?

Hello everyone, new here but like everyone else have been reading the posts here for awhile. I have not been offically dx with TOS yet but in the process of it. Was referred to a physiotherapist by my PCP and started PT last week and now have a tens that I am suppose to use everyday. My PT stated that I did test postive for TOS during the eval. I am scheduled to have an EMG next week. I have all the symptoms of TOS, numbness in my pinkie finger, pins and needles in my fingers, pain in my arm, hand, shoulder, neck with burning as well. It is now on both sides with the worse on the right. My hands are now red with white blotches, that just started last week. Also now my chin and lips have started to burn. Heres some hx, I started out having burning in my right shoulder about 5 yrs ago that came and went worse with driving. Then I took a desk/computer job and that is when everything went down hill. That was almost 2 yrs ago, I was dx with herniated disc at c5/c6 and 7 mths ago had a discectomy with fusion with instrumentation. I was doing better than went back to work and then all the symptoms starting returning. Just went back to my Neruosurgeon, did an MRI, and he said that the pain was not coming from the surgical site. So, now Im going to have the emg next week. The question that I have is this, anyone with TOS having some of the same symptoms in their lower legs/feet. I have been having cramps, achey pain in my calfs with some numbness, prickly, tingling sensations in my toes. My legs feel very weak and heavy at times and so do my arms. I read a study that conculded a close link between TOS and MS. It actually stated that TOS could contribute to someone developing MS. So, I have been very concerned about these lower leg feelings. Has anyone here had problems with their legs that was from the TOS? I have been in pretty severe pain for the past 2 years and I am scared to death that I now have MS. I am going to ask my dr next week to start ruling out MS. Appreciate any comments or advice. Thanks.

Welcome to NT

Yeah, you're pretty painwrecked right now.

I've had leg involvement from the MVA (10-2000) . Left leg still lingered with lots of problems for years. The LED and infrared light helped the leg tremendously in Dec 2008. Not a lot of time right now, but have written about it on previous posts. Short end of story. Got big pad in dec 2008 and by the end of Jan 2009, I'm running @ 5-6 MPH for 10 mins on a aqua treadmill, with very little pain from it, that I had been using since 05-03 and couldn't go no more than 3 MPH for 30 mins. I knew then the lights were for me. I do not know that the leg issues I've had are related to TOS. I can only say, you are a whole person

Reflexology helps my leg pain too. I also use a TheraCane http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&s...qi=g2&aql=&oq= for muscle spasms too.

Since you have neck, TOS and leg issues, I'll give you my Avatar link if you want to read on some of my posts. Warning -- tend to be lengthy. sorry.

There's lots of helpful people to help with your challenges. Let us know what's your most troublesome and we'll jump and give it a shot.

I've pondered MS too. That's terrrible also to deal with. I don't have that. thank God. There's a forum here for that if you want to visit the Stumble Inn. Here's the link for that. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum102.html

Don't get your hopes up too high for the EMG. Most are inconclusive, although with your neck, you probably do have findings.

Hope you find some peace...

Have you had any vascular studies done for your arms and legs? The heaviness and achiness you describe remind me of my own problems. I have venous insufficiency in my legs and venous/arterial involvement in my arms.

Thanks for the response! No I have not had any venous studies done but Im going to ask my dr about a venogram to see if I have any blockage or not. I am otherwise very healthy. I have no other medical problems like Hypertension, diabetes etc... I just had lab drawn and my cholesteral came back great and my triglycerides were low. I wouldnt think that I had venous insuff in my lower legs but you never know. I do have Degenerative Disc Disease in my neck but the MRI on my lumbar area came back with only one degenerative disc but none bulging or herniated. I just want to know what is wrong with me and how Im going to deal with it. Im pretty sure that I developed TOS from having the herniated disc for so long and then the repetitive injury on top of that. I did post on the MS site as well. Thanks again.

PixiFied what kind of venous insuff do you have. Is it primary or secondary. I started thinking about what you said and I think you may be right. My EMG today showed everything to be normal except for mild chronic changes in my neck which is expected and the doc said not responsible for these symptoms that Im having. Just wanted to ask you if you have the blanching on your feet. Right now my toes are red and my feet/toes are very blanchey as well as my hands. The dr didnt really think I had tos b/c the redness in my hands is all over instand of just on the pinkie/ulnar side. The numbess there has actually subsided over the past couple of weeks. I see my PCP tomorrow so Im going to ask about having some more tests done. Really discouraged right now. thanks for any response.

I have primary venous insufficiency. I have the mottled redness in my arms and legs, though most noticeable in my hands and feet. If you are concerned about insufficiency, ask for a reflux doppler test. I hope your appointment goes well.
