Default Great First Rib Moving Self-Therapy

I saw a new D.O. recently who taught me this really neat little trick...

-Lay down on your back, flat.

-Place your hand, palm side up, on your forehead.

-Push a few ounces of pressure against your forehead.

This "lifts" the first rib. And it may not be a permanent fix, but "ah..." it can really feel good.

I was told to do this a few times a day, and it would actually help loosen up my stuck first ribs. I don't know if it's working (I don't think it is), but I can tell you this -- I've been really sick this week, and none of my lymphatic system is draining, and it hurt really bad, so I started using that technique, just to temporarily relieve my head of the pressure and pain... And I think it may have helpd my lymph drain a little bit.

Has anyone else ever learned this one? I can't believe it's taken me 10 years to learn this one.

He didn't really say, but I can FEEL the right hand/arm moving the right rib.
For me, it's just temporary. The minute I stop the pressure, the rib settles back down. Supposedly, it's supposed to eventually help the rib loosen up a bit (my first ribs are stuck)... but so far I haven't had any luck with any long term effect. But it is nice for the moment.

Default Use of the foam roller!

Hi guys,
There was a good thread recently about moving ribs using a foam roller to keep them in place and down where they should be.....perhaps Jo could link you to it.....It really helps me to keep the ribs in place and for a longer time. I don't have the ability or strength in my right hand to do this technique.

thanks for the info!!
love and hugs,
Victoria

sorry you're having too much difficulty today.

I haven't found the foam roller like you have yet, but I have taken a 2 liter Pepsi bottle (sometimes empty and sometimes not), while naturally reclining in my chair, and roll it side to side on my sternum, between my breast and it just kind of goes up and down.

Thanks for sharing. With your help on the roller, I've adapted to what's available and found relief.

Hang in there, baby. it won't always be this way.

Something interesting to try :

1) Relax your scalene with HEAT
2) Do this exercice and see how long you have relief.

If it's more than withtout relaxed scalene, the theory about the elevated rib by scalene is confirmed. In contrast, it can be eleminated if failed.
