Help Med problems - Egg Belches

I just wanted to share with you a problem I have with my meds. Several months ago I started having egg belches (sulfur). The smell was awful. As it progressed, the gas started smelling more like garbage. Two to three hours after the gas started, I was vomiting. The pain in my stomach was awful. I ended up in the ER three times and was hospitalized for two days at one point. The drs. were confused but they took out my gall bladder that was badly damaged. At that time I assumed I was cured of the problem. A month or so later, I had another stomach attack. Each one was getting worse and worse. Again, the smell and gas was awful. Finally a dr. suggested what he called the fried egg sandwich test. They put a tracer in the sandwich. I ate it and then laid on an xray machine for two hours. Turns out that my stomach was taking 10 hours or more to empty compared to the normal three. So my meals were laying around in there and turning to garbage. I switched meds a few times since then. Most of them caused the same problem. I'm to the point that I can only take my meds when I'm desparate because they also slow down my stomach. I take meth and flexeril but cannot take them more than once a day. I still have attacks but not as often cause I'm not taking the meds.

Just an FYI for an usual problem.

Default Take care of it

I would be concerned, have your blood work done,. This medication may be affecting your liver...
My daughter had several problems, reflux off the wall and gallbladder had a slow dump, the nartoics were slowing the bile and backing up into the gall bladder. They almost took her gall bladdder , and the bile duct was blocking flow....... but here the methadone was causing a liver failure.
The mention of sulfure gas taste is what was her complaint, also itchiness too in later stages.

After switching from methadone and the oxycotin to a duregeic patch that was topical she was pulled out of it. No gall bladder surgery, liver functions fine again, no smelly sulfar, whole turn around.

I would pursue big time. Make sure FULL blood works is done.

Default Hi MJA,

I have stomach problems and some meds affect me the same way. I have GERD, PUD and also aerialaxal volvoulus of the stomach. This is where your intestines are twisted.

Could you be dealing with any of these problems. My gallbladder is gone too so it's not that but there are some meds that I belch up an awlful taste from.

I'm on Methadone and it doesn't do it to me but I just quit the Flexeril again because it was tearing my stomach up even with Prevacid. It could be the Flexeril.

I'm sure with the three er visits, they checked my CBC. All I was told was that I had a fatty liver. Thank god the attacks are about 1 a month now. My dr is totally aware of the situation but doesn't seem worried. I'll ask again next time I see her about my liver.
