Default Tens units and TOS

I am curious if anyone uses and has success with a tens unit. I saw info on purchasing units in the sticky threads but I'm interested in how people have thought it worked for them and where they have placed the electrodes. I understand how they work, but I'm curious if they give long term relief after you remove the electrodes? Or if there are any negatives to them (i.e. creating more pain/damaging nerves)?
