Default Lyrica - no effect at all?

Hi all!

I tried searching the forum, but didnt find anyone who has taken Lyrica with no effect at all.

I've started 3 weeks ago with 3x 75mg daily, then 3x 150mg daily and now 2x 150mg + 300mg at night daily.

So far i've seen no effect - not even the slightest side effects. I still have the burning nerve pain and tingling in my hands - i feel like im taking a vitamin.

Have you tried anything like this?

I haven't tried it, but wanted to suggest checking the expiration date.

I just stopped taking lyrica. I was on it for about 3 months my highest dose was 100mg 3 times a day and I felt no relief from the burning and I didn't have any side effects either. I was reluctant to try it because of the side effects I have read about, but I agree with you it was like taking a vitamin. I felt no effects or relief. Prior to trying lyrica I tried neurotin (gabapentin) with the same results - no relief. Now I'm off everything but a low dose anti depressant lexapro 10mg. and xnanx when needed. The pain has caused me to experience anxiety and panic because I can't seem to find relief. So far xnanx has helped calm me down.

There is a recent acupuncture thread on this list and while poking around some more, I ran into this thread:

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread104881.html

Where people reported substantial pain relief. HTH.

From reading on all the various forums here, some medications just don't work for some people. Often it is a case of trying different meds to find the right one, or ones, for you.
Hopefully your doctor will be aware that this can happen.

It has also been brought up in the past that an added anti depressant will help the pain med to be more effective. Possibly due to less tension be held in the body?

Tension = shallow breaths instead of full diaphragmatic breaths along w/ increased muscle tension

I hope you are also exploring various therapies, home care, self help ideas that have been mentioned by fellow posters in many of the messages here, along with any needed medications.

Thanks for all your replies

I'm gonna take Lyrica for a few weeks more, but if it doesn't work i probably have to switch medication.I tried acupuncture in the past, but I didn't feel sufficient pain relief, perhaps because they were treating me for tennis elbow -maybe I should give it a try again.

I just hoped the Lyrica would work, because so many consider Lyrica a wonderdrug

As I was recently diagnosed with having a depression, I probably have to switch medication anyway to some antidepressants, as far as I know they can be pain relieving also.

You're right JoMar, besides taking medication; I regularly go to a physical therapist who also studies osteopathy, see a chiropractor, doing gentle stretches, taking a lot of supplements and using a TENS unit.
