Hey this maybe a dumb question, but was just wondering is a winging scapula s symptom of TOS, or is a winging scapula the cause of TOS?

I think the winging scapular is a cause , one of many. as the blade shifts and the geometry of the shoulder girdle changes. nerves and blood carriers can be compressed. there were articles in medical journals that I've read attesting to this in theory anyway.

for me it is totally a cause.

im worried once i correct my shoulders tho too much damage will be done to fully recover

Are you an athlete? Or lack there of? What is your profession? Usually winged scapulas are due to compensation by the body for something we are doing to it and yes can then cause TOS. I would say, almost always winged scapulas cause TOS. Are you in the States? If so, please look for a Postural Restoration PT. They are the bomb and really doing cutting edge stuff. You should start anterior serratus strength exercises, too.

I was a weight lifter, and worked in office in front of the computer, and no not in the states im in australia.

So what causes the scapula to wing, is it damge to the nerve?
