Muscles burn when lactic acid builds up in them.
Applying heat after exercise, may help. Stopping cold after exercise is not recommended either, slow down, and do other movements for a short while, to help the lactic acid move off. Another thing that helps is acetyl carnitine. If you take this regularly when you exercise, it helps burn fatty acids in the muscle mitochondria instead of glucose. That means less lactic acid. You might also find d-ribose supplement helpful for energy production in the muscle. You may be too young to know about Jane Fonda's old workouts! She used to encourage viewers of her tapes to "feel the burn" LOL
