I have strange symptoms. All without neurological aspect. Right sided headaches , eye pain, right sides neck pain and a tiny bump near my temple. Due to health insurancr i cannot do anything avout it until later this year . Am I a ticking time bomb ?
I had an mri of my brain for other reasons. I'm not sure if they would've picked up aneurysm without contrast ? Please for those of you who have knowledge on this please inform me. I've been researching online for months and cant find how likely a stroke is. Is this a slow progresson or fast when someone has aTOs or VTOS? I wish I was able to privately talk to someone who is going through a similar thing. Most of you have neaurological tos and i don't. Is there anyone who is willing to talk with me ? I'd appreciate it. I'm very scared and only 26. I'm trying to find a doctor who can help me. There aren't any good ones in New York apparently. |

I have ATOS and I'm going through the conservative care route for various reasons.
Unfortunately, I cannot answer your questions even though I empathize with you. I have also not found what the risk factor for stroke is in the literature. And I cannot tell you what your risk factor is. I don't even know mine! If you look through my previous posts, you'll find me sharing tips on what has helped me, though I am not cured and don't know that I ever will be. One extra tip. Many of my head symptoms were caused by TMJD and I didn't even know it. My TMJD in turn was caused mostly by muscular tension in the neck and around the jaw. As I have gotten those to relax, my head symptoms have greatly reduced. Diazepam, breaks, stretches, destressing, muscle relaxation meditation, magnesium and manual therapy were all key to bringing the muscle tension down. You can PM me if you need to. |

I've been reading TOS forums since 2004, and I don't think I've ever read about anyone having a stroke due to TOS.
Is there any history of strokes in your family? A clot "might" be possible, pretty rare, if I recall it is most likely in the area of where the compression is or downstream (arm). You'd probably know if you got one, they hurt, swell and usually make a red area. My sis in law & a niece both had clots, one in the leg & one in arm - theirs weren't TOS related. about the progression of TOS, it all depends on what is the root cause - and what if anything is being done to change the cause. If you are think it is work /postures / hobbies, then some changes need to happen to stop the progression. Have you seen the self care suggestions and tried any of them? The passive gentle posture correction/stretches should be good for most of us. Have you figured out what might be the cause of your TOS?

I didn't mean to worry anyone. Has anyone asked their doctor about the risk of a stroke ? I wish I lived in a state with better doctors or I'd know the answer to this question.
Does anyone know if you can physically feel an aneurysm near your temple ? Can TMJ cause tiny bumps near temple ? My most concerning symptom is the right sided headache and deep neck pain. I really dont want to worry about this and that I'm going to suffer with a stroke any second. |

i am no expert, but i was getting bad headache on one side and bad neck pain on same side until i started ART. my muscles were so tight, i believe that was causing most of the problems. the therapist said my muscles were like rocks.

I have been told by several doctors at very prestigious places that the risk of a stroke is very very small. I have both subclavian artery and vein trapped by excessive scar tissue after a broken clavicle from a bad car accident. So, don't worry so much (yeah, easier said than done, believe me I know), you probably have a much better chance of getting hit by a bus or falling space junk than of having a stroke from this.
There are plenty of good doctors in NY. You just have to dig for the information on the medical center websites, I have found it to be mostly buried kind of deep, probably because TOS is not well known, understood, or "popular". Are you near NYC? Look into Dr. Mark Adelman at NYU. Vascular surgeon, head of dept. Yet not eager to chop into a problem just because it's there, takes time with you, and generally nice, not arrogant like most. Just went down into the city again to see him, he had more ultrasounds of neck & thoracic vessels done to reassure me and my pt that we didn't have to worry about strokes from this. |
