Hi everyone. I'm 27 and have had RSI symptoms in my right arm ever since college due to life long terrible posture and an obsession with computers.
Recently the symptoms have spread to the brachia plexus area on the right side of my neck. I've noticed that I seem to have some sort of inflammation there as well which has an odd sensation (almost as if it's being constricted, the brachia plexus bit feels the same except maybe more like it's being poked just above the collar bone, another symptom is both elbows feel sensitive and sometimes my sternocleidomastoid has the same strange dull sensation). I thought it was maybe a cervical rib but it feels more fibrous when I touch it. I don't have this at all on the left side and because it has an odd sensation I was hoping finding out what exactly it is would help me finally find a cure for my TOS. Thanks, sorry it's not especially clear, let me know if you have any questions. ** |

*edit* I've looked at cervical rib x-rays and the inflammation looks to be in that area, though it's obviously hard to see what I mean without the image. *edit*

It looks about like what others have described at times.
A swollen lump above the collarbone area. I don't know if any have had it explained as to what exactly it is.. but I'd say probably some spasms and some lymph blockages in the area. or do a TOS forum search for lump near collarbone or such - the posts are a few years old that it was mentioned in. I don't think it has been mentioned recently. you can do a web search for videos of lymph drainage massage and try some of the techniques to see if it helps at all. Or possibly a spasmed SCM or scalene?? have you palpated the area? hot, cold etc?

Ah thanks, I searched for lymph node massage on youtube and applied the technique. There seemed to be a small squishy lump which when I manipulated like in the video seemed to 'pop' downwards. An hour later I can't feel the lump at all.
Btw, another symptom of my TOS is that if I stand and keep my arms dangling by my sides they become discoloured, below is a photo of my right arm after about 40 seconds of it dangling. It also happens in my left hand but not as much. |

Are you asking how many times do I have the discolouration? If so it happens every time I'm standing and let my arms dangle, even when I stand with what I think is 'correct' posture.
Also just to let you know the small bump that I felt has gone but the larger 'inflamed' area remains and still feels quite odd, almost as if somebody has got their hands around it and squeezing it. It doesn't feel like a lump as such, it's more of a fiberous tendon that goes from my neck to underneath the collar. I noticed that just below it there is a vein that if I keep pushed in with my finger it seems to pump up the vein a little which runs down the side of my neck. Here's the first photo to show what I mean. The red line shows the vein and the blue line is the tendon thing which I don't know what it is, feels strange and is nowhere near as big as on my left side (I can barely feel it on my left). |

For the discolouration it's simple : anything that disrupts interscalene/collarbone space give permanent venous compression symptoms (from a study).
You are a perfect clone of me. Try http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread150627.html , it worked for me. For the odd sensations, it's normal, seriously don't care about. All TOSER have some. Personaly my fingers/wrist/head often move by themselves hard when i relax/try to sleep, and i don't joke. And believe me or not, but i had occasionaly : - Painful explosions between collarbone and firs rib - Some strange little "explosions", not painful, on anterior scalene - Spasms that made my symptoms better (wtf ?) Relax and it may go away, or just be patient. Today i still have some problems like this. Sick... Last edited by boytos; 06-26-2011 at 01:17 PM. |

Thanks a lot boytos!
I sleep on my sides which probably is quite bad for the thoracic so I'll definitely try sleeping on my back in future with some additional support under the back since otherwise the mattress tends to push my shoulders forward and together. The swiss ball stretch seems very interesting as well. I do some door and eagle stretches already which have helped, is there any way of performing the same sort of stretch as shown in exercise 2 but without a ball? Maybe rolling up some towels and placing them on the floor might do the trick? |

remember to keep your chin tucked in slightly AT ALL TIMES
i agree that we all get really weird random sensations. it's exhausting to analyze them
