The Top Of My Head Hurts To Touch Is This From The Sternocleidomastoid?

Hello Jo55 ....Your post came across in my email & I joined at once.

My problems is that my head hurts to touch. It feels like trigger points all over my skull. I have FM, TOS etc... only no one has been able to explain this pain. I do have a lot of allergies & had thought it could be sinus buildup.

Could this be from the Sternocleidomastoid Syndrome?

I really appreciate all you took the time to write everything down for us.

Best Regards,
Sunny

Hi Sunny,
Welcome to the forums!

And Thanks - but I only added a few comments - most of it was copy/paste and a few clicks back and forth.

In fact once I found the info i only skimmed it quickly because I wanted to get it posted right away.

these are some of my fav TrP info links might be of help to see if you can reduce your sx of SCM {I can't be sure if it is that but try the Trp stuff and see}-

"I often tell the patient, "This is what I will find. All the muscles in this right shoulder will be weak and your neck motion in the opposite direction will be restricted by the trapezius due to the tension it exerts on your neck from poor posture." I then muscle test them and show them what I said is true. I will then pull the shoulder back and retest. With the new angle the shoulder functions at, it is noticeably stronger. I also show them their neck moves more easily with their shoulders back vs. their current posture and make them see what posture does to their neck. Seeing is believing and our more sophisticated '90s public always wants more pro"

i have this..my body is very asymmetrical.

i think my SCM is giving me the worst tmj and aggravating my scalenes. i dont get spasms in my scalenes very often but my scm is always burning. even now when im wearing a stupid neck brace. i get manual pt to it. it's a lot better but still really messed up. i dont like looking down or turning my head. it feels like its never going to heal.

maybe on an adventurous day ill try putting heat on it. generally my muscles dont like heat tho. theyre burning too much as it is.

im actually still pretty p.o'd that one of my pts rec'd neck crunches. i mean can you IMAGINE doing neck crunches to an aggravated scm? just thinking about it makes my skin crawl now.

advice for anyone looking for a pt, if the pt doesnt even touch your neck, then go somewhere else.
