different strokes, ive done that and it was irritating
exercises that require me to be in good posture pressed up against a wall have been bad news serratus slides are good though, but you are facing a wall i wonder how many people here have downwardly rotated shoulders its weird this guy whos a shoulder guru, im not going to post his vids but he says that the upper trap is actually inhibited in downwardly rotated shoulders. you get trigger points around the shoulder blade but the real problem is the levator and the rhomboids. i definitely have this on my right side (where it wings at the bottom) but i dont think its common to tosers. it could be an aggravating factor tho

Yay! Ill make one.
I think hypermobile people have their own type of tos. I've talked to several women with ehlers danlos syndrome and they all have some version of tos. Even without their ribs necessarily being raised. Like mine can raise but they went down. Still feel awful

Thera bands, for me, were awful.
The arm bike-terrible. The usual things therapists try-gave me terrible flareups. Listen to your body if a therapy does not sound right or does not work for you. Don't torture yourself for weeks and weeks like I did hoping to void surgery. TOS may not be well understood, but you deserve to be well cared for!

Hey all,
Going through the exact same problem Although I've constant swelling of the hands and veins too, I've recently found a new PT who's stated the same 'your upper trap (right) has wasted and you must shrug!'. I kinda understand what he's say, but for for the past 3 years I've been give 'shoulders down and back', with no progress - so maybe he's right? I have a desk job, so all my pain comes during work hours. I guess I'm querying whether anyone's been through a similar story with the PT? |

I was told to shrug my shoulders following surgery and I always found that it exacerbated my pain in the neck and traps. Most of the usual things PTs proposed for me were aggravating. The only thing I've been able to do that helps is lie on the floor and practice diaphragmatic breathing. But, at some point, one has to get off the floor so it hasn't been a practical solution, but it does take the edge off for a bit.

As opposed to generic shrugs, search monkey shrugs. My PT recommended these against the normal exercises as they don't activate the levator scaps, which tends to be the main cause of the pain in and around the neck area.
What surgery did you receive and was it a success? Is your PT designed to lift the shoulder up? Quote:

I'm not sure if you're asking me, but I had left rib resection and scalenectomy in January 2005.
I searched for monkey shrugs and found a Youtube video. I can do it (without weights) without aggravating my neck pain. Thanks, Kelly |
