This place in NYC mentions myofascial release and the Feldenkrais method which I have seen posted about in this forum as well. In your opinion, would you think it's something worth checking out as opposed to Edgelow's home kit? Maybe I should do 2 weeks with both methods, but that probably isn't long enough to really know if it helps. |

If you can manage it , you could try both , or just go for a single evaluation/intro type visit first .. To see and get a feel for what they know, before getting stuck in a set of sessions..
And you could probably tell right away if it is not a good place or person for you.. Sometimes it does take a combo of things to make a difference therapy wise. But if you have the extra cervie ribs , sorry I can't recall if that is your situation or not at the moment... it may be a waste of time /money to expect any changes in a short time frame. They might be able to help with pain relieving therapies though..

I have the Edgelow Protocol, but like Kellysf, I was never able to do all of the exercises. I also had a failed surgery 21 years ago so I'm not interested in anymore of that.
I've had better luck doing the Sharon Butler Self Care Program for TOS and joint mobility exercises from Scott Sonnon. I've kind of combined ideas from both of them. It hasn't cured me but I'm doing better than I have in a long time. I've been working at it for little over two years, though. Improvements come slowly and it takes a lot of patience and dedication. |

I had P.T. with Dr Edgelow himself for about 8-10 sessions (the max my insurnace would pay for) and got the booklet and CD of breathing music and ball on the stick. (you can make your own ball on a stick by cutting a tennis ball with an exacto knife and putting a wooden dowel stick that is about 1" diameter through it. Not sure what length of dowel however.
When I get into a flareup the first thing I do is lie on the carpet and do the breathing where you kind of rock your pelvis. That was breathing I learned and perfected by my practicing the Edgelow Protocol. I also did it some more with a hand P.T. (lori sweet) (I no longer have a first rib so the ball on the stick doesn't work anymore). It didn't really do much for me except give me a set of tools to help center my thoughts and focus on my breathing fduring a flareup. I still had to eventually get the TOS surgery (because my vascular TOS was so bad and not getting better and because I was still in 10/10 pain) |

Hi NerPain,
Sorry to hear you are not doing well. I hope one day you will be able to get some relief. Can you please tell us who you had surgery with and if it was through the armpit or by your collar bone. Also, did you get relief from surgery and then the symptoms came back? Thanks. |
