Default Physical Therapy HOPE!

I saw a Physical Therapist today on the list that jkl626 provided (see NEW PT thread by jkl626).

She said my bp is extremely tight and so is my shoulder girdle. She was just amazed on the tightness.

She gave me stretches for the scalenes and one to help push my rib back down and then she gave me the foam roller stretch.

She has successfully treated TOS and she said that TOS patients all have the same story: they have been bounced around from doctor to doctor.

She does deep tissue and moblization. She seems to really know what she is doing. She worked on my pecs as well and it felt like the meat trying to come off of the rib (like it is all bunched up). My chest is actually red now.

This seems like a good thing. I will keep you posted.

Deepest thanks goes to jkl626.

[When the pecs are tight, they will tend to turn the shoulder inwards (internal rotation) and change the position of your shoulder joint.

When the shoulders are turned inwards, more pressure is placed on the rotator cuff and the shoulder joint.]

Intercostals are the muscles that can elevate ribs when they go into spasm. Mine can do so very suddenly in which case I get a sharp pain, or they can sneak up on me, the bastards.

And IIRC, my current PT (Ando in Anaheim) called out rib 3 as the one that when elevated can stretch and stress the pec minor. A web search for "rib 3 pec minor" (https://www.google.com/search?q=rib+3+pec+minor) is showing me ribs 3 - 5 as the connection.

When I learned how to show my ribs back in, I started having far fewer pec minor pinch sensations. This was a recent development.

HTH
