Default Inspirational Alfred Hitchcock Episode

I just saw an Alfred Hitchcock episode tonight on TV (reruns). It was the best I have ever seen and it has a great message for us with TOS:

It was called Chasing Aaron.

It was about a camp at a lake. Each boy had to do ceramics class and swimming class and earn badges.

The guy teaching the ceramics class was frustrated with all the models as the only things the boys were making were ash trays that were ugly and flat pancakes.

But then he meets Aaron, who was staying after class. Aaron was making a man. The proportions were perfect. The instructor was really impressed.

And they showed it and it really looked like a good model.

But this made Aaron late for swimming. And the swim teacher was mad.

The episode kept going on with Aaron always staying after class making his model really really well. And, the swim teacher being mad that he had no time to actually teach Aaron how to swim. Aaron was the only boy there that could not swim at all.

The camp was coming to an end and parents day was coming. The owner of the camp was mad that Aaron had nothing to show for himself. His parents would surely be mad. Aaron had not finished his model (which by now was a knight in armor ready to fight a dragon). But it was not finished. The dragon was not even started and the model had no arms yet. Aaron did not learn how to swim yet either.

The owner told the ceramics instructor to make Aaron hurry it up. He was okay with Aaron not earning his swimming badge but surely he thought Aaron's parents would be mad if he didn't even have a model finished by the end of camp!

So the instructor told Aaron that he had to hurry the model up. Aaron told him that he only had his dad visiting. His mom had died. He said his dad would not be mad if the model was not finished. The instructor asked him why? Aaron said "because my dad is like you."

How endearing!

Aaron took his time on the model, making sure it was perfect. He spent so much time on the legs, making sure the proportions were right.

He also worried about how brave the man had to be. He wondered how big the dragon was. The instructor told him the dragon did not matter since he wouldn't finish the dragon or even start the dragon. But Aaron said that he had to know how big the dragon would be in order to know how "brave" to make the man.

Well, parents day was tomorrow. Aaron did not finish the model. The model only had one arm.

The owner went to the instructor and told the ceramics instructor that he had to finish the model for Aaron. He had to put on another arm so that parents day would have a full model done.

The instructor, having his pay threatened, went ahead and made an arm. The arm was not as good as what Aaron could do. He reluctantly messed with Aaron's perfect model.

On parents day, Aaron met up with the instructor in the ceramics shop. He said his dad was going to meet him there.

The instructor showed Aaron the model of the man with the finished arm. Aaron was so mad he ran out. He said "that is no longer my model, you ruined it!"

The instructor FELT SO BAD! And the owner walked in and the instructor pulled off the arm and the model was left as Aaron had made him.

Then Aaron's dad walked in. He said "I'm Aaron's dad, where is Aaron?"

And as the camera moved in on Aaron's dad, you see that his dad only has one arm.
