Default 2 Weeks Post Rib Re-Section Surgery

Well, it's been an interesting couple of weeks. Surgery went well as can be expected. I was concerned about waking up and feeling dizzy and naucious from the anesthetic, but they did a good job in minimizing for me - the last thing I wanted to be doing was throwing up in recovery. Pain has been manageable for the most part. However, unfortunately, a few days after surgery, I ended up very ill from the combination of the anesthetic and morphine pump I had in the hospital. I ended up with a "sleepy bowel", in which all I was doing for 2 days was puking my guts out. Apparantly the combination of all the drugs made my bowel become "lazy" and so it was not digesting properly and therefore all food was coming up. It was pretty sore puking post-surgery, but I survived! I had to stop all prescription pain meds (i.e. Oxycontin) because my body could not tolerate. Been living on extra strength tylenols, which seem ok, not great, but take a bit of the edge off. Seeing my surgeon on Monday for follow up, but I think I am on track to where I should be at this point. Too early to tell if the surgery has been successful and restored blood flow to my arm. I guess time will tell. If anyone is scheduled for surgery in the near future and has specific questions, feel free to ask - open to sharing any part of the experience if it will help others.

Sealeg - I am a couple of days post-op for arterial TOS. I'm sorry to hear of what you've been through. It makes my 1st 36 hours not look so bad. Hopefully, your recovery is on track. Be sure to check back in and let us know how you are doing.

Thanks Sheri. I hope things are progressing well for you. The fact that you are online a few days out is a good sign I hope!
