Default Surgery on left side

Hello, I had a 1st rib resection done on my right side last year jan 2012. My left side wasn't as bad at that time so I decided to wait and see if things may improve, only it got alot worse. I am scheduled to have the left operated on at the end of the month. I am very nervous. I am right handed. Should I still expect as much pain and restrictions after surgery? I was off work for almost 6 months after my right side was done. What should I expect this time?

I would imagine it will be much the same as your previous experience. I had surgery on my left side -- and I'm right-handed -- and the recovery was awful. I never went back to work, unfortunately. At least you know not to push yourself after the surgery. Just take it nice and slow. If it hurts, stop doing it.

Best of luck.

I had both sides done at the same time and it was completely manageable. Good luck with your next surgery! Heal fast!

The pain from my first surgery was awful as well , which lasted about 3 months. I went back to work slowly at 6 months ( started at 3 hrs 3 days a week). I still only work 1 day on one day off. I haven't gone back full time yet. My PT says I may never be able to work fulltime again.

I have not. However, I am a breastfeeding mom so that may have something to do with it. I've actually lost a little weight. Just a couple pounds.

Praying for your speedy recovery.

I did not have surgery so I don't really know.

Take it easy so you can get our be optimal outcome.
