Default Anyone have their rib removed through the armpit?

I am looking for others who had their first rib removed through the armpit. I am now 10 days post op and I am feeling about 80% which is great but I have an issue. I had a drainage tube below the incision and they took that out before I left the hospital. My husband changed the bandage for a couple days and then there wasn't much drainage so I went to a small bandaid. A couple days ago in the shower it started draining alot so I went back to the large dressing.

Yesterday I called my doctor and the nurse told me it was fine because I was getting around more and doing some stretches with my arm. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

My surgery was at the clavicle and I had a problem with the JP drain would not stop draining while in hospital, it was a lymph leak and had to have further surgery to stop it. Not good if it continues but that may not be the issue you have....just keep track if it becomes worse.

Do you have stitches or dermabond on the incision? They may need redo the dermabond or stitch/restitch you.

The problem was at the puncture point of where my drainage tube was. It has now stopped draining. My pain has dropped in that area considerably! I am glad that it drained!

My incision is dermabond.

I have bi-lateral incisions in armpits (rt side was done twice, so have extra swelling/scar tissue there - years later). I didn't have any drainage tubes when discharged.

Why did you have to have the right side done twice if you don't mind me asking?
