I have the same problem and have been doing some research. It seems that some of the nerves that control the sphincter between the esophagus and stomach (LES) could be compressed through TOS and cause the LES not to function properly. It doesn't seem like much research specifically correlating the 2 has been done but it's possible.
I have been suffering with GERD for over a year. I've changed my diet, I've taken high doses of prilosec and zantac, I'm not overweight... Nothing helps - so maybe it is my nerves. Anyway, thought I'd post this in case anyone else is dealing with it. |

I have been suffering from GERD issues for years. TOS is much much better but the GERD issues continue. I was on dexilant for 3 years but have been switched to Pantoprazole. I cannot do without some GERD prescription medication every single day. Right now GERD is the main issue I am battling with.
Sec161 you could be right, there could be a connection...I have always had that doubt in my head.... |

Jomar what brand and strength of papaya enzymes? That should help with the digestion but not the valve betn the stomach and esophagus right? Wish there was a way to fix that valve!

Some various products on iherb to compare
[Digestion, Stomach Gas, bloating, belching, loss of appetite, nausea and discomfort may indicate a more serious condition, or dyspepsia, which is a generalized term for poor digestion. Chronic dyspepsia should be investigated for the root cause, which could be esophageal reflux, gallstones, an ulcer or another condition. Enzymes, probiotics, as well as artichoke leaf and turmeric may support digestive health. ] http://www.iherb.com/Digestion-Stomach *not promoting iherb - I use it for info & price comparison shopping.*

I am now using a digestive enzyme with every meal and taking a high quality probiotic each morning. That's been 2 weeks and no help so far. Plus, I don't get much relief from regular antacids - that's why I think it might be a valve problem, which could be nerve related...
Stos, do you the rx meds work for you? I was on 80 mg prilosec and 300 mg zantac but I didn't get much relief. I need to go back to a GI doctor. |
