I could be mistaken, but I thought the diagnostic inj were usually marcaine (sp)or Novocain type mixes and called a block?
But I suppose botox might be used also.. I think sometimes the marcaine or Novocain mixtures or botox inj can be ongoing as treatments. But I don't have any first hand knowledge on those, so I hope others that have been that route will chime in and share what they know about it.

I believe Drs. Sheldon Jordan and Dean Donahue skip the diagnostic Marcaine block and use Botox for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Jordan's is EMG-guided, not sure about Donahue.

Dr Donahue used ultrasound guided Botox injections. Hopkins (Dr. Freishlag used the Marcaine block. Dr. Donahue doesn't normally use Botox as an ongoing treatment, only as a diagnostic tool.

No, Jordan does the marcaine scalene block for diagnostic purposes. If you respond to that he recommends you try the botox. Both are Ultrasound and EMg guided. I did both with him. the scalene block came out positive but the botox didnt work. The Scalene Block test is subjective as he relies on you telling him how you feel both before and after-so since I wanst in alot of pain beforehand-it was hard for me to tell how much it actually worked. I had a bad reaction to the botox-it actually made my shoulder muscles freeze up.

How did you make out? I just had the same done on Friday at MGH and I'm feeling worse since the shots but its only been 2 days and they said I could get a flare up. I just hope this doesn't last 3-4 months. I was doing really well with PT for TOS but never quite able to get "better". My hope was the shots would push me over the line Thanks |
