Also, a close fam member is so ignorant that he said I am "a baby" and I am "blowing my "disease" way out of proportion" and people have it "way worse" etc etc. If I didn't have arm pain, I probably would have punched him and said "that is .0000000001% of the pain I experience on a constant daily basis so stop freakin' comparing my disability, not my "disease" or "injury" to cancer, people who don't have limbs, or to ANYONE because you have no idea what you are talking about!!!" SOOO frustrating because since I "look fine" it means it can't be "that bad" to any ignorant person. Also because I have TOS, I should be confined to my home and cannot have a little fun and attempt to live a normal life, according to MANY ignorant people.

Ok I am done venting lol.
Lol, lol I've heard the exact same things, and even more. I was just asked by my sister two weeks ago, Are u praying, fasting, etc.? I was like really? I pray, fast and have been a believer in the LORD the majority of my life. So u don't think with the constant pain, swelling, coldness, etc., that I haven't prayed and fasted after dealing with this for 20yrs. I felt so hurt, it stayed with me for almost a week. I don't think family and others understand the magnitude of TOS. I have so many stories and comments, it would take up this space. Especially dealing with this for twenty years. :0)

I'm glad u wrote about this. To hear your stories and others, shows us all we are in this together. I'm thankful and blessed to have this forum. It allows us to laugh, share our stories, lift one another, and to pray for one another.

God bless

My bosses told me to "be at work more often" since I was missing work with flare-ups and/or doctors appointments in 3 states. When I told them I skipped a drs appointment to be at work, they told me, "I never told you to do that." So then I replied, "what do you want me to do." Believe it or not, he repeated "be at work more often."

I've been told, "at least you're alive" since my TOS began after my breast cancer surgeries and chemo. (yep, I'm one of those lucky ones)

While it hasn't been blatantly said, it's been implied that since I can do some things on some days I must be faking or it's not that bad.

I've been told I look fine, so why aren't I doing better?

I could fill a book with the lines I've heard from people.

LOL, stupid advice is a great thread topic!

"Live with it because I can't help you"

"Go home and enjoy your life, you will outgrow this"

"Your hand goes pure white when you raise your arm, and then it quickly flushes bright red when you lower it, because you are tall and the blood has a long way to travel down your arm and back"

All given by doctors to my teenaged son who was later diagnosed with arterial TOS

Wow, I just read this whole thread and wanted to laugh and cry at the same time!

After my recent, sudden and very unexpected diagnosis of Paget Schroetter's with immediate surgery for partial 1st rib resection... When people ask what happened to me and I explain it they all clutch their lower ribs!

I think my favorite bad advice was one family member telling me that essential oils would heal it and prevent it from happening on the other side. I had to fight her off as she attempted to dowse my freshly healing incision!

I was told many things by many people. I tried everything under the sun including seeing some Chinese herbal doctor who said it was stress and had me drink some nasty tea for several days. It stunk so bad when making it and even worst to drink. Did acupuncture, several forms of chiropractic treatments which found Gonstead method the best. Three surgeries, Energy healing, etc etc etc. I finally found the things that are working for me that I put in an early post.
