Default Scalene block

I am heading back to Johns Hopkins tomorrow(flying from Kentucky to Baltimore)for a scalene block. I am nervous and do not really know what to expect. The surgeon wants this and a MRI(also done tomorrow)so he can decide if I'm a good candidate for surgery. I'm not sure what I'm more anxious about, the shot or having to fly twice in one day(I hate, hate, hate to fly Wish me luck!!

What doctor are you seeing? I just saw Dr. Reifsnyder 2 weeks ago at Hopkins Bayview. No mention of a Scalene Block for me. Based on my symptoms and complete loss of radial pulse he suggested I have my first rib removed. I did have a MR Neurography, Doppler Ultrasound, and a few other test that were all negative. The only test that showed anything was the Nerve Conduction/EMG.

I'm seeing Dr. Lum. I had a positive Doppler the last time I was there. Just got back and I am beat. P.S. The scalene block was not much fun

What did they use lidocaine, Botox, or something else?

It was lidocaine. It hurt like a wasp sting when they injected it, but the pain was very brief. I did have some pain relief for about 3 hours after.

Hi there,
Don't worry! I've had 2 scalene blocks and they weren't big deal at all! I promise. I was in and out of the hospital in an hour and a half.
My bill is what scared me and hurt the most
