I have two questions for everybody and really appreciate any thoughts on both:

1. I'm looking for a disability attorney (ideally familiar with tos) in California.

2. Do unpaid medical bills affect your credit score a lot? I obviously ask this because I have a small fortune in unpaid medical bills at the moment as I'm sure many of you have . Also, does anyone have any advice about how to best manage a small fortune in unpaid medical bills?

And, in case anyone is wondering, I'm still recovering from my surgery 4 weeks ago. The post-operative complication of pain in my chest has diminished over all, but I have my good and bad days and hours and minutes. Using my right arm still causes me a lot of pain, and that's the hardest part. But I definitely feel that I'm on the right track and that they generally fixed my problem during surgery. I just don't know how recovered I am going to be eventually.

but do you have any ins to cover those bills or is this the leftovers after ins paid?

you might be able to make a deal to pay less?
set up a payment plan for the least amount possible?

some times you just have to call around and ask a bunch of questions- but don't wait until the last minute or it will go to collections!
then your credit will be affected for sure.

from what I understand, medical bills DO NOT affect your credit rating. At least, they didn't used to.

If they go to collection then, yes, they will go against ones credit.

Most hospitals have a plan where for a ONE time only they will greatly reduce or even write off ones bill. Check with them. If not, they have to accept as much as you can pay them in a month.

Do not let them tell you that you have to pay a certain amount each month, they don't have the right to do that not knowing your income level or living expenses. You tell them how much you can afford. If you can't anywhere with the one person as to talk to a supervisor.

Do what was previously said, make arrangements with the intities.
Most will work with you.
they would rather get something than nothing.
