I'm getting better week to week but the last couple of days the pain right below my collarbone has gotten worse - sharp, burning, shooting type of pain. I started PT two and a half weeks ago, which is going very well. Is the pain underneath the collarbone to be expected as the numbness wears off? Is this a normal sign of recovery? Also my hand is still red/bluish. My surgery was performed on 3/24.
Another worrisome symptom is spams/twitches above my eye on the affected side. Any info or tips to speed up recovery time would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Rich Last edited by stlouis; 05-03-2014 at 08:48 PM. |

Where is your incision? Is the pain around the skin or deep underneath?

Incision is above the collarbone but pain is an upper chest below collarbone. Definitely not incision or skin related, sharp shooting pain. Will address the issue with my physical therapist on Tuesday. In the meantime, it hurts! The good news is the shoulder blade sharp pain i was experiencing has subsided.

What is your pt having you do for this? I had botox last week, arm pain is less, but I still have this pain to, except on the left side, so it mimics a heart attack, haha, which 3 ekgs later I am pretty sure my 33 year old self is still not having a heart attack. It feels like I need a really good stretch on a regular basis and maybe that will help, unless there is scar tissue....

If I increase the dose of the muscle relaxer I get a bit of relief, but still having the sharp pain near collarbone and shoulder blade areas. I'm almost 8 weeks post op and my hand still feels very weak and turns dark red when doing the lightest of activities. I did not have much hand weakness pre op, and I was very proactive, electing for surgery only a couple of months after my hand was turning red with frequent tingling and some numbness if I overdid things at work. I know in some cases it just takes more time to get over the hump, so I'm doing exactly what PT says and hoping to turn the corner soon. It's best to stay optimistic, especially on the bad days. Still getting tingling frequently also.

I have had the random sharp pains too. Try laying with a heating pad under your shoulder, trap, painful tight area on the back side and another one on the front side. This is always helpful to me. The full treatment for me is a hot bath with Epsom salts, lots of Epsom salts, then apply lidocaine patches, then take muscle relaxant, Flexeril, then lay down with for mentioned heating pad. |
