Assuming you don't have to do household chores yourself like cooking cleaning laundry etc--are you able to take care of yourself without assistance in the more immediate aftermath of surgery?

After the first week, yes. In my case a little longer because I had robotic surgery which means 5 incisions and a pain pump connected to the incisions for 2 weeks plus a collapsed lung. So I needed help with taking showers for the first 2 weeks but I was able to use the restroom, brush teeth, wash face as soon as I got out of the hospital.

I was able to care for myself in terms of bathing, dressing, eating, etc. However, I was not able to prepare food, do laundry, shop, or drive for two months or so. Sleeping was very, very difficult and my pain levels were high.
Good luck. |

Yes, I forgot about the sleeping, thank you for reminder Kelly. I slept with 5-6 pillows propping me up for about a month, could not lie down. Basically you are trying to recreate the hospital bed experience.
