Hi my daughter has been told she has two civical ribs plus a floating rib the consultant she has been to see has said surgery would be the best option for her to relieve her from pain but I'm worried as she is only 11 she is in a lot of pain and every morning she has to pop her top vertebrae back in as when she stretches it pops out but the pain she has down her arms and pins and needles are worse what will be the outcome if she has the operation can anyone help

If she is in pain everyday already, it probably is best to get the floating & cervical ribs removed before any long term damage is done..
All the extra rubbing/movement inside the body could be causing irritation & internal scarring... But find the best/highly skilled surgeon that you can get for this operation.. With good surgical team and good care recovery should go well.

I would suggest calling around and getting recommendations from skilled surgeons. Also, many journal articles can be found on pubmed detailing different surgical outcomes for each type of surgical procedure.

Many of those other members/surgeries didn't have cervical ribs or a floating rib.
Many had to keep working while waiting for a correct diagnosis and needed pain meds during that time too, so that covered up the ongoing damage while waiting .... They generally had the regular top rib removed to make space for the nerves & blood flow.. Some even had a pec minor release and had scar tissue addressed during surgery.. Age is greatly on her side for fast healing.. She may even be hyper-mobile if she is popping things in and out easily... If you aren't ready to consider r surgery yet seek out only the very best PTs , body worker, chiropractors and give them a try , but if things get worse stop going to them... And they should NOT push weights or strenuous activities until her pain & symptoms have greatly reduced.. If you search the site for Cervical rib you will find past postings.. or cervie rib & c rib for short.. sticky threads - very important info lots to read... http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread135.html http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread84.html http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread125577.html
