I just got out of the hospital and now they have discovered diabetes as well as damage to the pancreas and gall bladder. The gall bladder needs to go, but it is not an emergency, as the diabetes is. So during the next week I will go and learn about diabetes, etc., I guess...
I am going to match the diabetes blood work to my Lyrica prescriptions. My bet is that they will show the Lyrica caused this. I am curious to see how the blood sugar rises. Anyone on Lyrica must get their blood work taken regularly and check it. God bless everyone and have a great 4th. |

Tamara,
I had no idea you were in the hospital.. I do hope that you are on the road to a smooth recovery. I had been on lyrica for a month but then asked to stop it due to the fact that I had started to gain more weight and God knows I didn't need anymore of that.... I guess it was a good thing I stopped when I did.. Take care and rest up.. Many Hugs ![]() ![]()

Thanks for your thoughts of well wishes.
And, I stopped I think around Nov., and I've lost 60 full pounds. I couldn't believe how high the scale got up to - I surely didn't FEEL that fat or see myself any different - but the scale didn't lie. Then as I lost weight, I really didn't do anything but stop the Lyrica. To lose a little more, I'm going to have to put out effort, both in the food that I eat, and by exercising. The problem with exercising is that of course, that night I swell and then for the next few days I'm in horrible pain. The insurance co. is still dragging its' feet on approving my stay at an inpatient detox to see where my pain base is. At this point, the TOS and all of the side problems are just SWELLING (excuse the pun.) The insurance co. also has tried three times now to halt my payments completely - I've beat them at their trick - and now they've cut them off because I supposedly missed an appt., which was when my grandmother died and it was a day before the services for her. So I guess now I'll write them and send a copy of the death certificate and services paper - it just doesn't end for me or for any of us relying on insurance companies. God bless you guys and gals, and give us a day of less pain. |

It seems that using certain medications always have draw backs. Lyrica added alot of lbs for me over a period of 6 months. I'm sorry for the battle we all face with approval of medications and side effects that are caused by these medications. I am now taking gabapentin but it's not doing the job with the burning pain it once did, now says rehabilitation specialist" we can increase the dose, to include taking it at mid day". I researched this for off label use and it says that long term effects are not known. I feel for you TShadow. Wondering with all this inactivity because of chronic pain, weight gain, and taking numerous medications, will find me with diabetes. Good for you with the weight loss

Hi Tam,
Sorry to hear of all your struggles. I am sorry to hear of your Grandmother as well, my condolences. Insurance companies are our nemesis. I am again fighting with mine as they feel I can go back to work with restrictions that are soooo outdated!!! Not to mention the 3000km between myself and so called workplace now!!! Again my sincere condolences at the loss of your Grandmother. Wow Diabetes....what a struggle you are facing. I hope that this is manageable and that you can find the information you need in the bloodwork. Half the battle is paperwork...not that we can do much. I hope that your organs are not in such bad shape that they will not heal. Are you aware of this being permanent??? I guess the pancreatic damage is your diabetes issue. I was on lyrica and the side effects for me are why I stopped taking it. I was having...issues with pleasure.....which is about the last side effect listed in the list of side effects. I hope that you have strength and pain free days to deal with all of your issues. love and hugs, Victoria

Oh Tam, I'm so sorry dear to hear about your Grandmother and that you were in Hospital. Diabetes is VERY serious, so learn all you can at your classes and at the diabetes Forum here. It's something you have to check on several times a day - it's so important. As if you don't already have enough to keep track of.
![]() The gall blader operation is no picnic, but you'll feel loads better after it's done. I did! keeping you in prayer always, ![]() Anne

Hi there sorry to hear about whats going on its sounds like one bad thing happens and every thing goes bad. Do you really think that this lyrica has caused your diabetes and why. The reasion i am asking is my doctor gave me some to try to day. I have only taken one so far and the burring in my shoulder blades have stopped and the tightness across the top of my shoulders as well. But if you can tell me more perhaps i should not be taking this stuff. Thanks and take care
