Default Neck Throbbing

I am sure others have asked and this has been answered before....

I mentioned in my first post. My main symtoms are pain in my hands, forearms, neck and shoulders. I assume these are mainly neuro symtoms.
I also get this throbbing in my neck at night. Typically when I lie on my back or left side. It actually wakes me up and if I move my neck slightly it will stop. I also get the slightest numbness on my face around my eyebrow/lips and only while lying down. I am super cold all the time. (This is not something new) To the point where I have to get up at night and shower. (keep in mind I live in CA) I never get any swelling or numbness.
Do others get this.....it drives me nuts mainly bc it wakes me up couple times a night...almost every night . I cannot figure out if it is causing any of the daytime pain.
I guess if I go for Botox Dr. Jordan will be able to see what is happening with my Ultrasound.

Brainstorming thinking outloud..or in typing...sorry for typos

I am assuming that your neck hurts in the back and you are bringing up your chin to stop the symptoms...Or is it something else.

SOme anatomy thoughts, there are fibrous bands that hold our neck up going to the collar bone. one half of society has shorter bands....if you have a TOS inciting event or symptoms, it is an inciting problem. ALSO, when one has TOS/ from the spasms, the neck has a reverse loradosis, a reverse curve. when the neck goes into spasms it looks like a reverse "S". I call it a swan neck. When I meet people with TOS, it is a sure sign....

Picture the hump area of the cervical spine and what some refer to as a widows hump.
Now some tos folks I heard get a straight neck, it is pulling normal curve to a straight line.

Why it hurts at night, improper support to the funky muscles. I take my pillow
turn the corner into the tuck or my chin/neck/ear.
I have tried all kind of pillows including the wal-pillow De Togut suggested. but what is needed is a pillow that feels jelly like not counter resistant foam like.

There is a thread all about pillows here with many tried and try ones.
I am getting one from my doctor that has one I tried, it is so pliable in my hands and as my head sinks in allows me to support my chin and neck.

I hate waking up feeling like I have been leaning over a keybaord all night.

I use bio freeze before bedtime, I like the rollon, but wow does the spray give a huge wave of penatrating feeling. IF not tolerant of that icy hot feel stick to the roll on.

During the day I use lidoderm pactchs one on the hump of my neck between the trapizius and one lumbar.

I use valium a a muscle relaxant. THe neuro called then the only tru muscle relaxant. I take either 6 or 10 mg a day, nearly every day, or few days covering flares.

Oh, on beds, I did not have bucks for tempupedic mattress, but for $57.97 I think it was I bought atopper that is supple from www.boscovs.com they are a local store I got mine there.
Ashley somthing or other. About 2 1/2 inches of material. I have had mine at least 6 years now.

Oh I sleep in the recliner a lot too....
dianne

PS were you ever given a soft collar, I would not depend on it to let muscle get mushy, but maybe a rest if in pain,

Default Neck Throbbing vs Neck Spasms

You have brought up what is my daytime issue. I get neck spasms during the day. If I do drawings at work they almost always start up. I have to be very careful when I excersice bc I want to tense up my neck and then they start again... The spasms don't really happen at night. My head is typically very happy to be supported. At night I just get the throbbing...feels like when your band aid is too tight. I can literally hear/feel my neck pulse throbbing. If I move my neck/head I can get it to stop but inevitably my neck slumps over a bit and it starts up again. I am just curious if anyone else get the throbbing.

I have recently been getting spasms in my scm muscles- the one that go from behind/below your ears to the breastbone. I haven't found a solution, unfortunately.

shelley mentioned that she gets more spasms in her neck/shoulder area when her thyroid is acting up (read: it's spewing excess everything out of it into that neck area). Going back to you being cold all the time, have you ever had your thyroid functions checked? It isn't difficult, and it is a good rule out sort of thing. Hypothyroid will make you cold all the time, among other things, and a swollen thyroid really messes with your neck structures. I am having some of this going on now myself. I was hoping it would resolve with thyroid meds, but now the doc says i am normalized and nothing has stopped. Patience, i keep telling myself..patience.

I also just ordered a buckwheat pillow, at the suggestion of new PT. Not sure if it will do anything yet, but I guess i'll find out soon enough.

Jsut from your name and mentioning the drawing LA, it sounds like ergonomics, but you likely figured that out. can you get work to have an OT go over thw worksite, give them a heads up of daytime fatigue...inciting tightness and throbbing at night,

Your head should not be rolling forward to look down...I knot it is not idea, for you, but eye height and ams at arm rest areas,
Every day that your work with a repetative strain injuryis a new inury, they are collective.

I just broke my heart reading last night, a dear friend doing a lot of computer work for her job, just crying in pain that felt like her body had an abcess pain.

Can you brainstorm or seek out an OT to try and reduce this daytime problem, so the stangling at night calms down?

I forgot if you had a diagx, surgery, are cervical ribs, vascular or what...brain over load as I am pursuing a second social work job part time.
I will seartch out your history though on the other thread.
