I found a site with lots of info links and maps of the fire & locations, it does take awhile to load though, because of all the images and maps.
http://map.sdsu.edu/ here is a map that loads faster- you can click the dots for detail http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/

Hi Victoria,
Thanks for asking.. I can tell you I am doing Ok.. I live in Rancho Cucamonga. I can see the mountain that lake arrowhead is on out my back window the last I heard they lost over 150 houses yesterday. It is very smokey here. The winds are blowing at about 40mph and gusting to about 50mph and it is going to be in the mid 90's today... Ugh.. They are still burning but some are being contained slightly. Thank you for asking.. Many Hugs Dawn

Traveled to see Doc Jordan this afternoon.
The freeways were a mess The sky is yucky The fires are still burning The air is like an oven The San Diego fire is really BAD My son and fam have 2 houses there and they are on watch with voluntary exvac My sis n law took blankets and pillows down to the San Diego Charger football stadium and she said she had never seen so many grateful people. My oldest daughter was evacuated up above LA in Canyon Country. They were allowed to go back Our backyard looks like a hurricane hit it YEP, I CAN HONERSTLY SAY THE SOUTHLAND LOOKS LIKE NEW ORLEANS KATRINA DEVESTATION. Oue pool is black ALL my expensive ceramic large pots and trees gone But its nothing compared to what others are experiencing and axiety of loosing everything. Its soooo very sad On a brighter note It is suppose to cool down the end of the week Maybe we'll get some ocean breezes and blow it all away I told Phil on the freeway home "Look, blue sky" And I smiled. |

We are breathing a sigh of relief here in Lake Forest/El Toro as the winds seemed to have turned back away from the homes.
The air is very thick with smoke and ash as Cyndy was saying. I've stayed in the house with the a/c on except for doc appts but I worry about the kids and my husband running around breathing in these particles. Thank you to those who called to check on us and Vic for your concern. One thoughtful forum member who does not live too far from me called concerned about the big plume of smoke that looked close to my home. Yes, it is close, if I go out on the main street we can see the flames on the hill side. At out local high school (El Toro) there is an evacuation center set up for those from the burn areas. If you are able to open the link, look at the 1st google map which shows where the fires are burning in our area. El Toro (which is Lake Forest-long story) is right above Mission Viejo and has several fires close. I can think of 4 forum members that are in the Mission Viejo and surrounding areas. __________________________________________________ _____ http://www.ocregister.com/news/fire-...-santiago-road |

If poss., the best maybe would be to contact Johanna and her hubby and be in contact with them, since they are near where you're flying in, and staying (?), and going to the party.
Don't be too frightened by the news. I have family ALL over SO.CAL., and NONE of us are affected at all. So. Cal. is BIG BIG BIG!!! (That is not to say I do not care about those who are affected, my heart does hurt for them. And of course it is frightening for those in the risk spots now.) But from the news, it looks like we're just burning to the inches here, and that's misleading. It simply isn't the reality here for everywhere - it's like pockets... So I think Jo and hubby would keep you best posted for your potential location and time coming in. And the coastal winds can blow all of this away in a day, if weather permits and fires are contained. Don't be scared from coming, unless it's truly a risk for where you're headed, ok? Last edited by tshadow; 10-24-2007 at 03:25 AM. Reason: We've got Mission Viejo, Coto de Caza, Irvine, Palm Springs, etc., and all is clear / fine where these particular houses are |

Am so glad to hear that it sounds as though all our California buddies are okay.
We’re doing okay too. We’re close to the Santiago Canyon fire (Trabuco Canyon/Foothill Ranch area) they’ve been showing on TV this morning. (Also the same general area Ocgirl described.) My mom’s assisted living facility is even closer, so we’ve been on standby since last night for possible evacuation. But the fire is 30% contained, and they seem to have control of the situation unless the Santa Ana winds kick up again. The air quality is bad due to smoke, and impairs breathing a bit, so we’re relying on air-conditioning. The sun casts a weird glow through the smoke….Last night we watched a different fire--not sure which--from our bedroom balcony all night….Other than that, we’re trying to go on with life as “normal.” Hope everyone else continues to do well! |

Hmmmm OC, my friend, you must be very smoky, especially today since the fires in our area have spread
They were 30% contained on Monday and they are still only 30% contained, so they haven't made too much headway here. They r working so hard tho. My friend who lives up the road from you (OC G) in Modjeska Canyon evacuated. Not sure if they could save her house or not. Malibu is doing better - San Diego is still a mess What happened is we had 2 fires near here, then 3, up to 6 and now there are 8 !!! - I just heard: they are far from over. you can count them on this map... we are above Oceanside, see Laguna Niguel? Go east of Laguna Niguel. We are in the middle of all those 8 spots - http://www.ocregister.com/news/maps-...318-google-msa We found burned up branches in our back yard and some thing in the driveway we coudn't identify but it was charred. The past 3 days it has been like an oven when I step outside. Maybe because I'm up on a hill but I think it was there too? There is a golden glow coming in all my windows. The sun came up as a big red ball. We are getting a break in the weather today. Down 10* . I've had a terrible time with headaches. But I'm still here and glad to see you others are too! xxoo hope |
