It has been a while since I posted. I had right sided TOS surgery on December 12th. I had rib removal and scalenectomy for arterial and venous TOS. I had immediate relief in my right hand, warmness, pulse, decreased acheness and no numbness. The recovery was a little rough. I had a tube in my lung for 10 days and breathing was a challenge. I also had difficulty with all the pain meds making me very sick. I finally decided to suck it up and deal with the pain instead of being sick. The biggest key to my successful recovery was finding a PT that knew about TOS and how to treat a patient recovering from the surgery. He was a blessing. I returned to work (school teacher) in March and have had very few symptoms. Mostly I still deal with mild shoulder pain/wkness and that is it. I wanted to post a success story as I feel that once people are ok, they move on and only those that are suffering are looking for help. It is good to know that TOS is not always a life sentence with only negative outcomes.

it's always good to hear a success story. thank you.
here's another one although there are a few facts that are definitely inaccurate. http://www.monroenews.com/apps/pbcs....ORTS/564737909 And another story here--see the 2 sections on strokes. This one not the success we hope for but an important reminder for those of us with arterial and venous TOS to pay attention to our condition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._R._R...son_and_stroke |

Remember that baseball player -Hank Blalock?
He had TOS surgery about a year ago..a thread about it then- http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...t=hank+blalock NEW - 06/03/2008 7:50 PM ET Blalock returns to field after surgery Infielder takes part in baseball-related activities for first time By Shawn Shroyer / MLB.com [...This was the first time since undergoing carpal tunnel release surgery on May 30 that Blalock participated in baseball-related activities. "I just want to get out there and get as much work as I can," Blalock said. However, Blalock still can't take part in full-on baseball activities. With the incision from the surgery in his right hand, he still isn't able to throw or take swings -- being a left-handed hitter, his right hand is his primary hand for gripping the bat. Even during Tuesday's abbreviated fielding practice, Blalock wore a protective glove over his right hand. ] http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...=.jsp&c_id=mlb hmm ...a torn hamstring and now a carpal tunnel surgery - very interesting but not very surprising. repeated injuries piling up.. I wonder if he might be hypermobile???

Celi,
I am so glad you are able to return to work. Be careful, and take good care of yourself. Speaking of that, did you file a work comp claim form for this? Are you now on any kind of restrictions for movement for your job? How much time were you given to recover after the surgery before returning to the job? Those would be of interest to other TOSers who are returning to work, or contemplating filing work comp and getting treatment. God bless. |
