guess the doc is using the correct terminology for the syndrome... I Had Doc Togut correct me early on that it is correct doctor talk, Brachial Plexus entrapment..the TOS is what we get labled I guess. The brachial bundle nerves C5/6/7/8 & t/1 are the bundle, they travel across the traps to the arm and brach off. They lay behind the collar bone and in front of the first rib in a tiny space they travel along with the vascular bundle. THUS the thoracic "inlet". Out to the arm they become the radial, ulnar, and medial nerve. Doc T says that TOS is the common term, not the proper term. When he wrote the diagx , I keptthe tablet paper he wrote it on, "Brachial Plexus Entrapment" so sticks with me. The Brachial bundle- branch from the cervical spine all the way to the finger tips about three feet long. Anywhere a "hinge" like the shoulder-elbow-wriste can bend and compress can develope symptoms. That is why so often there is DeQuirvians (sp), carpal tunnel, or ulnar tunnel, even bursitis as diagx... Makes one want to slam their upper arm in a mamography machine full force and say is that bursitis? Bursitis is local to that bursi area...does not travel, if they lift your arm and the pain travels, flares, numbs, pins, etc...it is TOS not bursitis. Been to some real jerks with De and some really sympathetic.... (Not that most of us do not know this, I just put all this for any new folks that may find this post some day in a search) But what ever term we use, it sucks....how about going to an ER in a flare and have them go oh you have bursitis! In a major flare. LOL! At least when my Ortho saw De, he took an xray, saw the bursitis, was shocked as he thought it was the TOS, but gave a shot in the bursi and IT DID calm down. I am rattling, time for bed, lack of sleep during vacation and off to a confernce tomorrow to Saturday. Di
