DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5) -- An employee of Grady Healthcare System was shot in the neck in the parking lot of DeKalb Medical Center. The victim was rushed into surgery. Click on video for more information.

The guy was an intake worker... someone I saw regularly. Prayers requested for his recovery.

This buildinmg is where I get my publically funded healthcare: downstairs is the Medical, upstairs is Mental health. Today's group was cancelled. Scary stuff out there - hard times - please everyone be safe!!

My prayers are with you. They are with the victim of this horrific crime. He is a healthcare worker. He has dedicated his life to helping others. Why are they not safe?
You hear stories of nurses getting beat up by patients in the ER. But to have a caregiver shot is too scary.
I am glad that I live in a place that gun violence is rare. I pray that there will be a reduction in gun violence everywhere.

Portland area had a murder/suicide right in a police station parking lot last week.
domestic violence.
she must have been going there for help in her car and he followed or chased her in his car and shot her in the parking lot right by the door to the station.
then he killed himself.

Oh dear, that is awful. We dont have very many shootings here in england - but way too many stabbings unfortunately....this sort of violence used to just be a mid of the night kind of event - but increasingly it happens in broad daylight!....the world is becoming a scary place.....

...and this is the Grady location that's NICE. It's the safest, most friendly one in the greater atlanta area. The one downtown is really scary and is where I go for specialty appointments and to pick up my class II meds.

this has me really freaked out. I park right where it happened. If I wasn't paranoid before, I sure as heck am now!

I used to think things like that couldn't happen in "nice" neighborhoods or areas where gun ownership was low. With all of the school shootings....like they happen more in areas where people are hunters or gun owners, which is not as common here in the northeast. But, in the last few years there has been a gun/hostage situation where I went to college and a thwarted Columbine like attack at our local high school. It seems like no place is safe nowadays. There are just too many sick, disturbed, or angry people out there. Sad that so many people can't or won't get the mental health help that could possibly prevent some of these attacks. I hate that there is still such a stigma regarding depression and other psychiatric problems that makes it hard for people to get help before there is a crisis.

Frightening. I think even the best of us would be paranoid if we usually parked where it happened.
The world is getting more dangerous. The thing is too many people think they are owed something or if some crisis happens to them they dont talk they pull a knife or gun. Are these things too easy to get?? Comes to something here in UK where portering staff in some hospitals wear stab vests!! Just very crazy. Also too many folk on illegal drugs and committing crimes to pay for theri habits.

still no word in the news about the status of the victim. I assume he remains in critical condition after surgery. The suspect remains at large. The building had no security cameras.

In Group yesterday, we learned one of our members witnessed the shooting. And sad to say it was "Dave" we'll call him. A sweet young man with well kept beautiful hair - always calm and kindly. "Dave" was acosted in the parking lot on his way in to work, was shot in the neck once and twice in his arm. The attacker didn't even take what he intended to steal - a backpack. He remains at large.

There has been no mention of this in the local news and The Grady Hospital system whom he works for is surely taking ultra-good care of him. It's a Level 1 Trauma center.

"Dave" has recently been downgraded from critical to serious. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
