I am scheduled for a stellate ganglion block on July 23. I am wondering if anyone else has had this procedure, and what to expect.
From what I understand it is a diagnostic tool for sympathetically mediated pain etc. Does anyone know if I am right? Help please! Trix |

I had my SGB done yesterday. It was a waste of time. The only thing that happened was that the pain lessened for about 3 hours. My right arm did warm up, and felt like it was a normal temp for a few hours.
Other than that I have a very sore throat, my face feels bruised, and it feels like I was punched in the throat where he put the needle in. It has complicated my already annoying swallowing issues, and that is about it. I hope that diagnostically that it helped the Dr.s. The good news is that I finally have a pain management Dr.. He is awesome. There was no questioning the validity of my diagnosis, just an aknowledgement of the pain I am in. He performed the block, and we talked about treatment options for almost an hour. It was a really good appointment. I will go back to him next month for a lidocaine infusion. I ope that works better. Trix |

I have hd 2 stellate ganglion blocks, the first one was done by junior doc watched over by pain cons. it was horrendous. the second one a month later done by the pain cons. i hardly felt anything. i had a problem that my b/p went up after this & was put on day ward for the day where unfortunatly i had a seizure, so it wasn`t for me, it is done as a diagnostic also pain relive tool. i know of many people who have found having these very helpful i was just unlucky. must add i have many other health problems & am an older person. good luck sophia |

My 1st block was a SGB in Dec...did help for a few hours & YES I went into a flare. SInce then I have had a BP block & a scalene block. The scalene did wonders for 2 weeks except I was in so much pain from the needle going in. Told us a sourch of the FIRING going on at this time. The block lasted 2 weeks. Botox was recommended but W/C ins denied. So typical of somthing helping but not authorizing. Attorney got it authorized & have the procedure Aug 6th.

My WC's done with me since I had the rib resection and won't do the other side. I sometimes wonder why the doctors here don't try any of that scalene and stellate ganglion block tretments..It shouldn't come as a surprise to me though since there's only one doctor here that does the surgery..vascular surgeon, and I had to find him myself.
