Default Neurolgic v/s Vascular.

I have been researching to find out which version of TOS causes hands to go cold in the ring and little finger. Emedicine.com says its the neurologic category but to me that seems wrong. Wouldn't a compression of blood flow cause the loss of circulation? Could someone help me understand? I can't seem to find the answer elsewhere.

I have neurogenic, but 'assume' that I also have venious compression on occasion. Using my hands for very long will cause them to get puffy and red. My guess is the blood goes in, but has trouble going out?

I hope it's ok to make more than one selection?

Hi all,

I think i have vascular? My arterial and venious (?) doppler studies say I have bilateral TOS. I know I Have compression of the subclvian artery when I put my arms up and I loose my pulse if I put my arms back. But I get very little help/info in Australia so I get most confused! I also have C5/6 disc compression and C7 nerve compression. Can someone clarify?
Thanks
Ozzy

My chiro explained part of it to me in this simple way,
nerves talk to and control the muscles and relay sensations.
the nerve/muscle connection really fits for me with the achy muscle stuff I get in my neck, upper back & armpits {pec minor}

The first cold front & frost coming in this weekend and my neck has been sore & achy since yesterday- for no reason other than the weather changing.

I'm thinking if you don't have swelling or color changes {more vascular in nature} and just have the coldness sensations then it seems like it would be more nerve related.
But it is very confusing when you have the smaller sensory nerves as well as the large nerves involved.

I suppose the drs are meaning the main nerves ulnar, radial, median when they label it as neurological. Just my thoughts on that.

I only had some ulnar nerve involvement for a couple months, yrs ago.
Luckily had a good enough PT at the time that it was able to be resolved.
Plus I was doing Sharon Butlers stretches, extra vitamins & supplements, heat/ice and I was off work by then, so lots of R & R.

But if I lift heavy things too much I'll get an achy feeling in my elbows and in my wrist.

I think I am mostly myofascial sx now, but still lose arterial pulse when arms are up/out or in other extreme positions..
I can hold them up or out for a minute or 2 but I can tell the blood stops and they get heavy and sore.

Default me myself

I have been diagnosed with both vascular(vein and artery) tos and neuro tos due to my work injury.

Had the rib out which really helped the vascular (90%) occlusion of my cephalic vein and artery. eeekkkkk......but that is much better now. I still do have neuro pain due to physio that wrecked the results of the surgery....did too much too aggressively.
so now I have neuro mainly but still have symptoms of vasular with cold hand and blue fingertips at times.

thanks for this thread.

love and hugs,
Victoria

Well im presently struggling to get a diagnosis - new dr says i may have CRPS...however i believe i have TOS....poss neurologic - pain in shoulder blade - weak arm - weak neck - pain, tingling, puffy look and detached feeling in little finger (tip tingles) - nail beds blue in affected hand - cold in hand, arm and shoulder. muscle wasteage in hand and collarbone wastage and pain up into front of neck (the anterior scalenes)

I think that this adds up to TOS but who am i do diagose myself? (may as wel leave that to a 'dr' who can just plain get it wrong!) Sorry ive gone from angry to bitter......
